In the Suwon city in Gyeonggi Province of South Korea, a festival featuring Japanese adult video (AV) actresses was scheduled to be held soon. But a woman’s rights group has opposed the event, flagging it as sexual exploitation.
The Suwon Women’s Group Network, an umbrella organization comprising seven different women’s groups, held a press conference in front of the Suwon Station Culture Plaza on March 12, calling for a halt of the event, stating that it was an attempt to commercialize and sexualize women’s bodies. They condemned the adult expo, 2024 KXF The Fashion.
They further mentioned that this event was a serious case of sexual violence since it portrays women simply as sex objects and their bodies as toys to play with. The organization emphasized that the event aims to push prostitution as a natural, cultural phenomenon meant to satisfy men while exploiting women’s bodies.
The 2024 KCF The Fashion event is hosted by an adult film production company, and this year, the event is scheduled to be held for two days, On April 20-21, at Suwon Messe, a private exhibition hall. It is the second event of its kind, following the first one held in Gwangmyeong City in December last year. In these events, adult-certified visitors pay the admission fee and participate in various activities, including getting autographs from Japanese AV actresses, clicking pictures with them, and watching a lingerie fashion show.
The news surfaced on popular community sites, with netizens siding with the women’s rights groups, criticizing the fact that such events are being allowed in their cities.
