An actress is making her acting comeback two years after a scandal put her career on hold. Her new fantasy-romance series just premiered on April 12, 2025.
Song Zu’er (also known as Lareina Song) is a Chinese actress and singer who made her debut in 2005 as a child actress. Since her debut role in the TV series The Sea and Sky Boundless (2005), Song has appeared in reality shows, TV series, and films, including Legally Romance (2022).
In August of 2023, a former employee accused Song of tax evasion, claiming she had not paid 45 million yuan in taxes (approximately $6.5 million USD). The scandal resulted in lost endorsements and acting roles, as well as Song’s decision to step away from the entertainment industry. In 2024, Song’s agency stated that the tax authorities’ investigation had found that she had not committed any tax evasion.
Now, nearly two years after the whistleblower’s accusation, Song is returning to the screen as the female lead in The Demon Hunter’s Romance. Song plays a woman who can see through demons’ disguises. Her life becomes entangled with that of a demon hunter, who has a secret of his own.
