A Japanese woman has undergone over 100 cosmetic procedures with a price tag of over $2,000,000 USD to turn her dream aesthetic into her reality. Her dream of transforming herself into a French doll began in childhood.

In an interview with Asian Boss, model Vanilla Chamu said that it all started when she was in kindergarten. She saw a French doll at her grandmother’s house and “thought it was adorable.” She began dressing in Lolita clothing–a Japanese subculture that embraces aesthetics from Victorian and Rococo fashion–but that wasn’t enough for Vanilla. By the time she was an elementary school student, Vanilla knew that she wanted to change her face and body with plastic surgery.

To put it simply, it was painful for me to live at that time. Because I hated my face. I hated when people would look at me, and even looking at myself in the mirror was painful.

Though Vanilla was insecure about her appearance as a child and experienced bullying, she stressed that those experiences weren’t what drove her to undergo surgery. Rather, she felt that she had been born in the wrong body and, with surgery, was returning to her “original form.”

When Vanilla first began to make headlines in the early 2010s for her extreme makeover, she had already had over 30 cosmetic procedures and spent over $100,000 USD.

At the time of her Asian Boss interview, Vanilla had undergone over 100 surgeries and still intended to have more.

“I think carefully about every operation I do,” said Vanilla, who works closely with medical professionals to keep herself safe. She used her nose as an example. Though she still wasn’t completely satisfied with the results, she said she had already had five surgeries on her nose and didn’t want to do more because it could cause the tissue there to die.

Where is Vanilla Chamu now? Six years after her 2019 interview, Vanilla is still living her French doll life while working as a social media content creator. She frequently posts modeling photos on Instagram…
