Produce 101 created successful idol groups such as I.O.I and Wanna One from their talent reality program.
But it seems like the next season is attempting to create a new format.
The third season of Produce 101 is speculated to have a new format that will not focus on idol production.
Instead, it will give 11 actors a chance to debut and not 11 idols compared to the existing format.
At present, it is still unsure what the ratio between male and female contenders will be.
Mnet, however, clarified speculations in a new statement.
“We are trialling different ideas with a number of different possibilities. As the situation keeps on changing, we can only confirm it in the near future.”

Produce 101 received major success with the past two seasons that even brought programs such as The Unit and Mix Nine.

With idol production already being used by programs of similar formats, the new seasons looks to trial actors or models instead.
Production is set to start early next year with confirmed plans to be released soon.
