Here Are All 11 Currently Active Female K-Pop Artists From China
These days, it’s become more common for non-Korean idols to debut in the K-Pop industry, with many of the foreign artists coming from Japan and China. There still aren’t a ton of female Chinese artists in the K-Pop music genre, but there are definitely some that are making a name for themselves! Here are the 11 currently active female K-Pop idols that came from China to debut.
1. Yiren (EVERGLOW)
Born on December 29, 2000, Yiren is the lead dancer, sub-vocalist, sub-rapper, visual, center, and maknae of EVERGLOW. She ranked #48 on Produce 101, and was also voted as the #1 Visual Center on the show. She trained for a total of 2 years and 2 months prior to becoming an idol, though she danced for around a decade beforehand. Her role models are Girls’ Generation‘s Yoona and Jun Jihyun.
2. Yuqi ((G)I-DLE)
Born on September 23, 1999, Yuqi is the lead dancer, sub-vocalist, sub-rapper, and face of the group of (G)I-DLE. She’s been a Rising Star Cosmetics model, and also used to be the president of her school’s street dance club in high school. She’s a big fan of Super Junior, and her bias is Ryeowook. Her hobbies include dancing and rapping.
3. Kyulkyung (former PRISTIN)
Born on December 16, 1998, Kyulkyung is the former main dancer, vocalist, visual, and face of the group of PRISTIN and now technically solo artist under Pledis Entertainment since she decided to stay under the company after PRISTIN’s disbandment. She trained to be an idol for 5 years and 5 months before going on Produce 101, where she finished 6th and became a member of I.O.I until their contract was over. She can play the piano, as well as the pipa, a four-stringed Chinese instrument. She’s also been a dance mentor on Idol Producer.
4. Meiqi (Cosmic Girls)
Born on October 15, 1998, Meiqi is the main dancer and vocalist of Cosmic Girls. She’s a member of the performance unit and in charge of “sexy concepts”. She ranked #1 on Produce 101 China, and was also part of the Chinese group Rocket Girls for 2 years until June 2020.
5. Cheng Xiao (Cosmic Girls)
Born on July 15, 1998, Cheng Xiao is the main dancer, vocalist, visual, and face of the group of Cosmic Girls. She left home to become a trainee at 16, and also trained in Chinese dance for 10 years. Her role model is Victoria from f(x), and is also a former JYP Entertainment trainee. She’s been a dance mentor on Idol Producer, and is very flexible and able to perform acrobatic tricks like flips.
6. Aurora (NATURE)
Born on January 14, 1997, Aurora is the lead dancer, vocalist, and visual of NATURE. She can play the piano, and is very flexible. She took part in season 2 of Youth with You, though she was eliminated on episode 10. Along with fellow members Saebom and LU, she’s part of NATURE’s “Charming Line”.
7. Sally (Gugudan)
Born on October 23, 1996, Sally is the lead dancer, lead rapper, and vocalist of Gugudan (though fans are uncertain about their exact status as an active group). She was a former CF model in China, and was also a contestant on the 2020 season of Produce 101 China, where she ranked 6th and will thus debut with the project group Bon Bon Girls. Her hobbies include shopping, cooking, and eating.
8. Handong (Dreamcatcher)
Born on March 26, 1996, Handong is a vocalist of Dreamcatcher. She only trained for 5 months before joining the group, and was encouraged by a professor to audition to be an idol in Korea. She’s currently on hiatus from the group due to filming for Idol Producer. She’s said that if she wasn’t an idol, she would want to be a flight attendant.
9. Sika (FANATICS)
Born on August 22, 1995, Sika is the main vocalist and lead dancer of FANATICS. She’s actually half Japanese and half Chinese, though she grew up in Dalian, China. She is a former JYP Entertainment trainee, and actually trained with TWICE‘s Momo, Sana, and Mina before leaving the company. She and member Doi are called the “mothers” of NATURE, and she’s known as the most responsible member.
10. Xuanyi (Cosmic Girls)
Born on January 26, 1995, Xuanyi is the lead dancer and vocalist of Cosmic Girls. She ranked 2nd place on Produce 101 China, and was part of Rocket Girls along with fellow member Meiqi. In 2018, she won the Most Popular Female Singer category on the Fresh Asia Music 2018 awards. She loves shopping and is skilled at playing the piano.
11. Victoria (f(x))
Born on February 2, 1987, Victoria is the leader, main dancer, lead rapper, sub-vocalist, and visual of f(x). Even though the group hasn’t been active for years, and the members are no longer under SM Entertainment, they’ve never officially disbanded, so some fans still hope for a comeback someday! Her specialties are in traditional and jazz dancing, and she’s known for her flexibility. She’s also starred in a couple Chinese dramas, and she likes to cook and eat.
