It’s always exciting to find love, and for celebrities, it becomes an occasion of public celebration should they choose to publicly announce their relationship. However, it becomes equally hard for them when they choose to let each other go because such knowledge becomes public as well.
While the circumstances might not be clear, here are some famous Korean celebrity breakups.
1. Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk
It’s always exciting when an onscreen K-Drama couple becomes official in real life! That’s exactly how it was for these Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo co-stars. Fans were ecstatic to hear the two had developed feelings for each other over the course of the show. Unfortunately, this meant fans were equally as devastated when YG Entertainment officially stated the relationship had come to an end in August 2017.
2. IU and Jang Ki Ha
IU and Jang Ki Ha met in 2013 and began dating soon after. Two years later they made their relationship public and the whole world was happy for the couple. Regrettably, after 4 years together, IU and Jang Ki Ha parted ways and decided to remain as friends.
3. UEE and Lee Sang Yoon
Relationships are a lot of hard work especially if you are celebrities. No one knows this better than UEE and Lee Sang Yoon, who decided to call it quits in 2017. Pledis Entertainment made a statement in regards to the two saying, they believed they had “naturally drifted apart due to their busy schedules.” They also added that UEE and Lee Sang Yoon would still remain as good colleagues and support one another. The news of their breakup came as a huge shock to everyone as it seemed the couple was as strong as ever, but obviously their schedules played into their relationship a little too much.

Conquering a 14 year age gap, Sulli and Choiza seemed to be one powerful couple. Unfortunately almost 3 years after they announced they were going out, the two announced the end of their relationship. Following Sulli’s passing, Choize received a barrage of hate messages from netizens, blaming him for her death.

7. EXO’s Kai and f(x)’s Krystal
The K-Pop couple that even had their own name, “Kaistal,” decided to part ways after a year of dating. Their busy schedules kept them from seeing each other often and the two reported that they will be taking the time to focus on their careers. Luckily, the two seem to have broken up on good terms because they also said that they will be supporting each other as well!
8. On Joo Wan and Jo Bo Ah
After almost two years together On Joo Wan and Jo Bo Ah decided to go their separate ways. The two actors met on the 2014 drama Surplus Princess and started dating in early 2015. While their agencies didn’t know the exact reason they broke up, they did believe the two had naturally grown apart and made a statement as such.
