13 K-Pop Idols Who Can Add “Author” To Their Already Impressive Resumes
As we all know, K-Pop idols have a whole range of talents to show, and they keep surprising fans with their numerous ventures! Here are 13 idols who have also shown their flair for writing, and have established themselves as authors as well!
1. Jessica Jung
Jessica Jung has shown her talents at tons of things, and one of them is trying her hand at writing! In late 2019, she announced the upcoming release of her debut novel titled Shine, which is about a Korean-American teenagers journey as a K-Pop idol. The novel is set to be released in September of this year, and is already on it’s way to being made into a Netflix movie!
2. SHINee’s Jonghyun
SHINee‘s Jonghyun was famous among fans for being a voracious reader, and that passion for a good story came out in many instances, such as his songwriting and novel writing! In 2015, Jonghyun released a book titled Skeleton Flower: Things That Have Been Released And Set Free, which is a book containing several of his short stories and elaborations on the songs he had written up until then.
3. Super Junior’s Leeteuk
Super Junior‘s Leeteuk is another idol who has released his own book! Late last year, Leeteuk revealed that after being the host of a cooking show for almost three years, he had been influenced enough to concoct his own recipes, and also revealed that he would be working on a book that would compile some of his best ideas! Finally, in January of this year, Leeteuk took to his Instagram to announce the release of his cookbook, titled Lee Teuk Cook Book!
4. FTISLAND’s Lee Hongki
FTISLAND‘s Hongki was a known fan of various kind of nail art, and he loved it so much, he released a book about it! In 2013, Lee Hongki released his book on nail art titled Lee Honggi Nail Book, which was written alongside nail artists Kim Soo Jung. The book, according to Hongki, was written to break stereotypes regarding men and nail art, and was also meant to show his vast knowledge about different kinds of nail art.
5. EXO’s Lay
EXO‘s Lay is a talented singer, dancer and songwriter, and his talents at writing also cover his 2015-released autobiography! Titled Standing Firm At 24, the book details his journey as a K-Pop idol trainee up to his debut, and also contains 24 moments of his life he believes shaped him, sharing it through stories and photographs.
6. Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon
Girls’ Generation‘s Hyoyeon is always surprising fans with her talents, such as dancing and DJ-ing, but what surprises fans the most is that she’s also an author! In 2015, she released a personal style book titled Hyo Style, which contains her tips and tricks regarding beauty, style and self-care that she’s picked up from her debut until 2015.
Through the book, she hoped to inspire people to be confident, and encouraged them to experiment with different looks until they find their own style, a style which they can truly say defines them best!
7. Lee Hyori
Lee Hyori is known for her great skills as a performer, an animal lover and a gorgeous beauty all around! Among her list of incredible accomplishments, Lee Hyori is also an author, having released her first book in 2012, titled Closer: The Story Of Hyori and Soon Shim. The book details her efforts regarding animal welfare in the form of adoption and protection; with special anecdotes regarding her pet dog Soon Shim and other animals she adopted being included in the book.
After the release of her book, Lee Hyori donated the proceeds to animal organisation KARA, which stands for Korea Animal Right Advocates.
8. Super Junior’s Heechul
Super Junior’s Heechul is another member of the group to release his own book! In 2017, Heechul released a photobook titled My Ramen-Ful Life, which is full of photographs of him in Japan, eating ramen and taking in the country’s beautiful scenery!
9. Epik High’s Tablo
Epik High‘s Tablo is a talented artist, with multiple credits as a rapper and songwriter! Along with his songwriting credits, he’s also an established author! He has released two books, one in 2008 and another one in 2016!
Tablo released Pieces Of You in 2008, which is his debut novel consisting of short stories he wrote during his college years. Initially published in English, it was translated to Korean after selling more than 50k copies!
8 years later, in 2016, Tablo released his second book titled Blonote, which is full of cleverly compiled cards and post-it notes that he read aloud to listeners of his radio show Dreaming With Tablo. The notes include daily thoughts of Tablo’s, as well as handwritten notes from other famous celebrities.
10. BIGBANG
BIGBANG has also published their very own autobiography! Published in 2009, the book is titled Shouting Out To The World, and details their journey from their debut, and also contains personal stories from the members about the hardships and other memories they have as BIGBANG.
11. SHINee’s Onew, Key and Taemin
In 2011, SHINee’s Onew, Taemin and Key released a travel book together! Titled The Sun’s Children, the book details the trio’s trip to Barcelona, Spain, and contains travel tips and information on transportation, shopping and must-see sights of the city!

As first-generation K-Pop idols, H.O.T are often regarded as the pioneers of modern K-Pop today. the group has collectively released a book titled H.O.T Forever, which talks about their time as active idols early in the industry. The book is an autobiographical one, and also details much of K-Pop’s origin and workings in its beginning days.
13. Goo Hye Sun
Technically not an idol, Goo Hye Sun is nonetheless a very impressive Korean artist! Alongside her career as an actress, Goo Hye Sun is also a singer, artist, director and an author, and has released around 7 books!
Her first book was released in 2009, an illustrated book titled Tango. The book details the life of a 20-something-year-old woman, who goes through two relationships to finally find herself and mature as a person.
Her next book was a non-fiction one released in 2010, titled Goo Hye Sun’s The Story Behind the Making Of “Magic”.
In 2011, Goo Hye Sun directed her second film titled The Peach Tree, and also wrote a novel version of the film herself, released in 2012!
