5 K-Pop Idols Who Threw Shade During Award Shows
K-Pop award shows are pretty peaceful, as idols are usually quite mellow during these events. However, there have been some idols who chose to be a little more savage during award shows and decided to throw some shade. Here’s a list of a few idols who threw shade during award shows.
1. G-Dragon (BIGBANG)
It’s quite well known that YG Entertainment isn’t the biggest fan of MAMA. This was on full display when G-Dragon decided to diss MAMA while attending the event! G-Dragon highlighted how the show doesn’t reward artists for their music, and that they focus more on popularity. He also dissed the show for handing out awards easily so that fans won’t fight.
It’s been a while MAMA, seems like you’re giving out big awards, they’re giving out nicely so there won’t be a fight.

4. Jin (BTS)
During 2019, there were lots of artists that were accused of sajaegi, also known as chart manipulation. During their acceptance at MAMA, Jin decided to call out these artists for their methods.
I really want us to live in a world where all of those songs are heard and get the recognition they deserve. I know there are some negative ways to do this, but music should be done in an honest way. I look forward to living in a world where music is produced in good faith and heard in good faith.

5. Lay (EXO)
In 2016, Lay made some headlines when some netizens thought he was throwing shade at upcoming artists.
In China, there’s a saying that the Yangtze River’s back waves will push off the waves in front. I hope EXO will prove this saying to be false and forever stand at the top of the highest mountain.

This proverb essentially is explaining how newcomers will always overtake the old. Some netizens viewed this as Lay taking a shot at other artists.

Bonus: Tablo (Epik High)
Tablo didn’t throw shade at any award shows, but he did reveal that award shows choose to give out awards based on appearance. He revealed that there have been many instances where Epik High didn’t get awards solely because they didn’t attend.
Usually they want you to come and perform but it just seemed weird for us. ‘You guys got an award. Congratulations. Can you come?’ And we were like, ‘Unfortunately, [we] can’t.’ Then they were like, ‘Then they don’t give you the award.’
It probably wasn’t an award we deserved to get. So we just decided not to [go], and just decided to stick with concerts and shows….
— Tablo
However, Tablo also stated that he understood why award shows choose to operate this way.
It’s totally understandable. It is an award show. The show part of it is very important.
I understand that for people who watch these shows, it would be weird if no one was there and it was just a bunch of announcements for the awards.
