10+ Things You Might Have Missed In BTS’s “Film Out” MV
BTS just released a music video teaser for their new Japanese song “Film out”. From comparisons to the HYYH era to exciting new possibilities, this video is full of clues and references. Here are 10+ things you might have missed!
1. FAKE Out
When the teaser for “Film out” MV dropped, many fans noticed striking similarities to “FAKE LOVE” MV, such as Jin and Jungkook‘s running scenes…
…and these solo scenes.
2. The desert door
In this surreal scene, Suga and J-Hope sit back to back in a door frame like mirror images.
This door frame could be the same one seen behind RM.
3. The looking-glass world
After the first verse, Jin walks across a dark, empty room towards BTS, who are on the other side of a window. Jin’s room is a mirror image of his members’ room…
…which could mean that this “window” is actually a mirror.
4. “Epiphany”
The layout of the room that BTS inhabits is similar to the one from…
…Jin’s solo music video, “Epiphany” MV. Coincidence?
5. The books
The shelf of books behind RM might hold answers to fan theorists’ burning questions about the music video.
One of the books, SPACE, might even into the Time Traveler Jin theory; he disrupts space and time to go back and save his members from their tragic fates over and over again.
6. Jin’s face is never shown
We never see Jin’s face when he is in the same room as the rest of his members.
In this room, he is only ever shown from behind, and in this particular scene, Jin is even played by a body double!
7. V’s chess game
While watching the video’s teaser, fans spotted toppled chess pieces on a board behind this hourglass.
A similar game of chess could be seen in the “Heartbeat” MV.
In the full “Film out” MV, we can see who was playing the game before the pieces fell over. Since the white pieces are facing V, he is likely one of the game’s players. The other player could either be J-Hope or Jungkook, who are sharing the couch with him. The pieces on the board are (not quite) perfect mirrored images, much like many of the symbols in this video.
8. The hourglass
The hourglass is one of the most important symbols in “Film out” MV. There is one in Jin’s room and one in his member’s rooms, but they aren’t the same. Jin’s hourglass is full of time that has not passed yet; time in his members’ hourglass has already run out.
When the teaser dropped, fans noticed how similar the hourglasses looked to the ones from BTS’s “Intro” VCR for “Dionysus”, played at the 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards…
…and the hourglass from the Speak Yourself The Final VCR.
9. Jin’s connection with Jungkook and V
Only two members seem to be able to see the looking-glass version of Jin. When Jin holds up his hourglass, Jungkook senses him, looks at Jin’s hourglass, then looks toward his own hourglass.
After the hourglass reverses, disrupting time, Jin attempts to leave his room through a door but finds no way out. When he walks back into the room, he approaches the window and so does V.
Jin then disappears, leaving V alone. Ever since BTS’s HYYH and LOVE YOURSELF eras, fans have suspected that Jin is not the only time traveler. Jungkook and V might be his successors.
10. History repeating
In the “FAKE LOVE” MV, Jin is trapped in a ruined room as it explodes around him.
The exact same thing happens in the “Film out” MV.
What makes this parallel even more interesting is the fact that both of these explosions happened after Jin made a connection with Jungkook.
11. The color connections and Demian
Color symbolism is always open to interpretation. The sudden color change after time unravels in “Film out” MV could tie Jin to specific members and moments from the past. After the hourglass’s sand reverses, Jin’s scene turns yellow…
..the same color as Jimin and V’s scenes.
In “FAKE LOVE” MV, yellow is connected to Suga’s fire.
Jin is the only one with a red scene in “Film out” MV…
…but a memorable red scene appears in the “Blood, Sweat & Tears” MV. During this scene, RM reads a quote from the book Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair’s Youth by Hermann Hesse.
He too was a tempter; he too was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do.
— RM reading Demian
The blue scene from “Film out” could possibly tie into Jimin’s water scene from “FAKE LOVE” MV…
…or perhaps V’s water scene from the “Euphoria” MV. The possibilities are endless!
