10 BTS Songs That Were Referenced In BTS’s “MAP OF THE SOUL: Persona” Lyrics
Fans have discovered several references to older BTS songs in BTS’s new album, MAP OF THE SOUL: Persona. Here are # references that go all the way back to BTS’s debut album.
1. BTS – “No More Dream”
“The big house, big house care, big rings we dreamed about / Even if I get everything I wanted
I’m still lonely with this unfamiliar feeling of someone who had everything come true”. These lines from “Home” look back on BTS’s very first title track: “I want a big house, big cars, and big rings / But in reality, I don’t have any big dreams”.
2. BTS – “Sea”
“Cross the desert and the sea / wide and wide world” and “I’m thirsty on the desert I’ve been through without you / So come on and get me quickly / I know the sea without you will end up like a desert. These lines from “Make It Right” have reminded fans these lyrics from “Sea”: “Ocean, desert, the world/ Everything, the same thing / Different name / I see ocean, l see desert / I see the world”.
3. BTS – “MIC Drop” Remix
“My hand, trophy and gold microphone”. These lyrics from “Make It Right” may be referring to these ones from “MIC Drop”: “Another trophy, my hands carry ’em / Too many that I can’t even count ’em/ Mic drop, mic drop”.
4. BTS – “Anpanman”
The lines “I dreamed of becoming a superhero / Now it feels like I really became one” in “Intro: Persona” could reference BTS’s superhero-themed song “Anpanman”. In “Make It Right” there is also a line that may remind fans of this song: “I became a hero in this world”.
In the “Boy With Luv”, MV, J-Hope raps this line while striking a pose from the “Anpanman” dance: “Everyone says that I used to be so little and now I became a hero”.
5. BTS – “The Stars”
“Like a star (We shine) / Do not disappear / It’s a big one / Let us shine”. These lyrics from “Mikrocosmos” bring to mind another cosmic hit: “The Stars”. It could be referring to these lyrics: “Just like that shining star / Light up as if you’re going to disappear”.
6. RM – “Voice”
The lyrics in “Intro: Persona”, “I wanna give you all the voices til I die”, may reference RM’s “Voice”, the first song in his 2015 mixtape.
7. BTS – “Boy In Luv”
The title of “Boy With Luv” and the following lyrics are direct references to “Boy In Luv”: “Yeah you makin’ me a boy with love”.
8. BTS – “RUN”
“One says ‘run’ another says ‘stop’“. These lyrics could be referring to this line in “RUN”: “I run, run, run / I can’t stop”.
9. WINGS
“I’m flying high in the sky/ (With the two wings you gave me back then)”. These lyrics from “Boy With Luv” have reminded many fans of BTS’s WINGS album.
10. BTS – “Intro: Skool Luv Affair”
If the track in BTS’s “Persona” trailer sounds familiar, that’s because it is. It uses a sampling from this song, which was the first track on the 2014 album Skool Luv Affair.
