These Books From RM’s And Suga’s Festa Photos Send A Powerful Message

When BTS released a split-world photo series for their 2019 Festa’s opening ceremony, ARMYs zeroed in on the details. After doing a lot of squinting and researching, fans discovered that many of the books featured in the RM Suga photos deal with lost souls, human rights, justice, racism, and more. Consider adding these titles to your summer reading list.

 

1. California Angel by Nancy Taylor Rosenberg

Childless and trapped in an unhappy marriage, Toy Johnson’s dream is to save lives and heal children. It all goes wrong when she–a good teacher, devoted wife, a decent human being–is arrested for child kidnapping and charged with murder. She can explain, but the truth defies logic and challenges belief. 

 

2. Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

This adventure book for children has new kids, bullies, alligators, eco-warriors, pancake pranks, owls, and more. A boy and his friend are hoping to relocate Mother Paula’s pancake restaurant to save a colony of endangered owls.

 

3. Doubly Dead by Lisa Wessel

Could grief and devastation be passed down the generations through DNA? This story follows a woman who believes she has inherited a cautious heart that makes her avoid love after a devastating personal loss.

 

4. Letters from the Lost Generation by Linda Patterson Miller

This historical novel follows Gerald and Sara Murphy, the core members of a famous group of friends that personified the jazz age. The group also included Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, and more. This book weaves together real-life letters that show how the Murphys were the glue that held the group together. It’s also a time capsule that gives insight into the “lost generation”.

 

5. An Outlaw’s Christmas by Linda Lael Miller

This romance novel follows wild-hearted Sawyer McKettrick who gets injured in a snowstorm and ends up in the care of a prim and proper teacher who has her own long-forgotten dreams. They wait out a storm that may bring their lonely hearts together.

6. I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella

This is a story of love and empowerment about a woman who is a “Ms. Fixit” for everybody in her life, but she herself hasn’t had the courage to chase her own dreams. The plot revolves around a complicated family, a handsome man who might be “the one,” and an IOU that changes everything.

7. She’s Come Undone by Wally Lamb

This coming of age story follows a 13-year-old girl who fills the loss of her childhood and the yearning in her heart with junk food. She soon finds herself disillusioned and weighing in 257 pounds, but she’s giving herself one last chance to pull herself out of her struggles before she goes under.

 

8. A Passage to India by E.M Forster

This novel takes place during the time of the British Raj and the Indian independence movement in the 1920s. It follows four characters with intertwined lives and deals with racial tensions and prejudices between Indians and the British who ruled India at the time.

 

9. Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella

This story is about a woman who has insecurities about herself until she experiences amnesia after a car accident. She’s lost three years of memory but gained the life of her dreams. She has wealth, a millionaire husband, and the outer beauty she always wanted, but as the story goes on, she realizes she doesn’t like the person she’s become or the life she’s living.

 

10. The Grim Grotto by Lemony Snicket

The Grim Grotto is the eleventh novel in the children’s novel series A Series of Unfortunate Events. It continues the story of the Baudelaire orphans who experience misfortune after misfortune while on a watery misadventure.
