4 Times Female Idols’ Stylists Came Under Fire For Inappropriate Outfits

#3 was dangerous.

Ideally, outfits given to K-Pop idols by stylists are comfortable, fashionable, and make the idol feel confident. However, there have been times when the styling choices have been considered inappropriate, unflattering, or even dangerous for the members. Here are 4 times stylists dropped the ball for female idols.

1. Joy (Red Velvet)

On December 13, Red Velvet appeared at the Lazada Festival Concert in Indonesia. The members wore matching ballerina-core outfits, with Joy looking pretty in pink.

However, she was visibly uncomfortable in such a short dress.

As thegroup began performing songs, it was easy to see that Joy’s dress was too short to perform in. Her dress rides up throughout the performance, leaving her safety shorts visible.

She had to continuously pull her skirt lower as to not show her safety shorts.

2. Nayeon (TWICE)

During TWICE 5TH WORLD TOUR ‘READY TO BE’ in Nagoya, Japan,  ONCEs ended up disappointed by a wardrobe malfunction the group’s stylist could’ve prevented.

Despite the excitement for Nayeon‘s new dance break in “POP!”, the idol’s uncomfortable stage outfit immediately caught fans’ attention.

As soon as Nayeon began dancing, her red skirt lifted to show her safety shorts underneath.

As an experienced idol, Nayeon quickly pulled her skirt down and continued with the performance.

The same thing happened with another version of the outfit seen below.

3. Karina (aespa)

Aespa’s appearance at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco had fans concerned for Karina’s safety.

During the group’s Outside Lands Festival performance, a backstage staff member was even spotted adjusting a strip on Karina’s outfit to prevent her from potentially tripping, further fueling the concerns.

Fans also called upon aespa’s stylists to acknowledge the potential hazards of their fashion choices. They urged them to be innovative and follow current fashion trends but without jeopardizing the artist’s safety.

4. NewJeans

On December 14, NewJeans attended the 2023 Asia Artist Awards. The members appeared wearing clothing heavily inspired by fashion trends from the 90s.

Although the girls undoubtedly looked beautiful, not everyone was a fan of the look. Many felt that the group members were grossly underdressed for the red carpet at an award show.

Specifically, Korean netizens gave the stylists flack for their choices.

  • Their music is getting worse, and so is their styling… Their face is the only thing pretty.
  • The stylist, again…
  • What’s going on with the stylist?
  • Where on earth did they find these clothes? The girls are so pretty, but their clothes are always weird.
  • The stylist had them wear rags.
  • Wow, their styling is always so weird. What are they doing with these pretty girls?
  • The girls are pretty, but their clothes are…
  • I feel like the stylist’s tastes and the girls’ brands are so different.
  • You don’t have to make them wear dresses for red carpet events, but this is they are too underdressed here. They look so tacky because the girls are forced to wear these outfits that are from the 90s.
