“Girls Planet 999” Teaser Reveals These 10+ Girl Group Idols Will Be Contestants On The Survival Show
Less than one month before the premiere of new survival show Girls Planet 999, Mnet has released a new teaser of the 99 contestants—and these 12 established girl group idols are part of the lineup.
1. Yujin (CLC)
24-year-old Yujin debuted as CLC’s lead dancer back in 2015, making her the most experienced girl group member joining Girls Planet 999. Unfortunately, when fellow member Elkie left the group last year, she revealed Cube Entertainment has not been providing support for CLC’s activities, which may explain why Yujin is taking the aspiring rookie idol plunge once again.
2. Jiwon (Cherry Bullet)
First debuting in 2019, 20-year-old Jiwon is Cherry Bullet’s main rapper, lead vocalist, visual, and center. Before joining the group, she trained under Starship Entertainment, Polaris Entertainment, and BlockBerry Creative, so she’s no stranger to the industry despite barely passing her rookie years.
3. May (Cherry Bullet)
Three Cherry Bullet members have joined the Girls Planet 999 lineup; the second is 16-year-old lead dancer, visual, and maknae May. The new survival show will bring together 33 contestants from Korea, 33 from China, and 33 from Japan. Since May is Japanese, it’s currently unclear whether she’ll be competing under the Korean division or not.
4. Bora (Cherry Bullet)
The third Cherry Bullet member joining the show is 22-year-old main vocalist Bora, who first got her start in the entertainment industry when she appeared on the 2005 K-Drama Wedding. With three of the group’s seven members competing on Girls Planet 999 this summer, fans are speculating the rest of the members may form a new unit group.
5. Seungeun (BVNDIT)
20-year-old Seungeun is 2019 group BVNDIT’s main dancer, center, and maknae. Seungeun previously revealed that she’d love to debut as an actress, but she could end up debuting as an idol all over again if she makes it to Girls Planet 999‘s final lineup.
6. Yeseo (Busters)
Busters disbanded and restructured in 2020 when all the members left the company, but one of the original members who debuted in 2017 was Yeseo. A former child actress since 2010, 16-year-old Yeseo was Busters’ main vocalist, lead dancer, and visual.
7. Rayeon (Fanatics)
Debuting in 2020, one year after Fanatics’ initial debut, 19-year-old Rayeon is the group’s main vocalist. She’s known for her ability to completely transform a song’s style, so fans are expecting her to impress viewers on Girls Planet 999.
8. Doah (Fanatics)
17-year-old Doah is the lead rapper, lead dancer, center, and maknae of Fanatics, and Girls Planet 999 won’t be her first time competing on a survival show. Doah previously appeared on Produce 48, where she ranked 23rd overall.
9. Chiayi (Fanatics)
Taiwanese Chiayi is Fanatics’ main dancer and visual. The 21-year-old has been dancing for a decade and has experience with every style from waacking to Chinese ballet, so her dance skills are sure to capture attention.
10. Sunwoo (Evermore Muse)
18-year-old Sunwoo of upcoming girl group Evermore Muse will also be appearing on Girls Planet 999. She previously appeared on KBS2‘s Top 10 Student, a spin-off of Top 10 Songs.
11. Hyerim (former LIMESODA)
22-year-old Hyerim first debuted in the 2018 group LIMESODA, leaving in 2020 to join gamer idol project group AQUA. Hyerim was LIMESODA’s main vocalist, lead dancer, and maknae, and previously made it to the semi-finals of SBS‘s K-Pop Star 6.
12. Seoryn (former LIPBUBBLE)
Former LIPBUBBLE member Seoryn was the main vocalist, lead dancer, and visual of the group. The 23-year-old joined the group in 2017 and left when they disbanded in 2019.
Girls Planet 999 will premiere on August 6 at 8:20 p.m. KST.
