Since the announcement of their relationship, the couple has been highly criticized because of Yong Junhyung’s involvement in the Burning Sun Scandal. Several tweets targeting the couple have since gone viral, with some containing information that is not entirely accurate, involving other idols like KARA‘s Goo Hara and Dawn.

1. Yong Junhyung’s Burning Sun Connection

Yong Junhyung was originally brought into the conversation about the Burning Sun Scandal when an expose was published, accusing him of being a part of the illegal sex chats along with Seungri and Jung Joon Young.

After first denying that he was affiliated  with any of the individuals involved in the chat, Junhyung shared a statement announcing his departure from HIGHLIGHT and revealing his true involvement. He shared that he did speak with Jung Joon Young in one-on-one chats about the convicted rapist getting caught sending an illegal video, and that he did receive a different video at another time.

Junhyung stated that he did not consider these crimes “a big deal.”

The idol participated in a witness interview, where he said he revealed everything he knew, and in 2024, finally apologized for the role he played.

2. The Role Goo Hara Played In Burning Sun

KARA’s Goo Hara was initially revealed to have helped the reporter investigating make a huge break in the Burning Sun case following her passing. The release of BBC’s Burning Sun documentary later revealed the extent she aided the case.

Reporter Kang Kyung Yoon stated that Hara reached out to her during a point of the case where she needed more information on a police officer said to be involved.  Hara, who is close to Choi Jonghoon, confirmed that she had seen weird things on his and the other celebrities’ phones.

After Kang shared what she needed, Hara took action, calling Choi Jonghoon and convincing him to speak with the reporter. This led to a big break in the case and it making headlines.

3. Goo Hara, Yong Junhyung, and the Revenge Porn Case

Goo Hara and Yong Junhyung dated each other from 2011 to 2013, with the break-up occurring as the pair had naturally grown apart due to busy schedules.

Some information has incorrectly labeled Yong Junhyung as having taken illegal videos of Hara, conflating two separate cases together.

Goo Hara and her ex-boyfriend, Choi Jong Beom, were first revealed to have had a violent interaction in 2018, where the man broke into her home and assaulted her. Hara then revealed that her initial silence about the case was because of Choi threatening to release a video taken while they were having sex.

Choi was initially only sentenced to an 18-month suspended sentence for the assault, but given a one-year prison sentence at retrial in 2020. The courts ruled him as innocent in the revenge porn case, due to the fact that the pair were in a relationship despite the content being taken without Hara’s permission.

This case was named as a reason for Hara’s aiding the Burning Sun reporter.

4. Goo Hara and HyunA’s Friendship

Hara and HyunA were both active during the same time, and appeared on programs together during the early 2010s, exhibiting a close relationship at the time.

In years before Hara’s passing, there were no public interactions between the pair.

5. HyunA And Dawn’s Broken Engagement

HyunA and Dawn dated for six years, and reportedly engaged in February 2022.

After this, HyunA did state that she did not want to get married, despite being proposed to. Dawn also commented at a later date that while he could have seen himself getting married to HyunA, he simply gave her the ring because he liked her and said that correcting the articles would have been awkward.

The pair would go on to break-up in November of that year, with each remaining warm towards each other. Dawn would later release “Dear My Light,” which was an open letter to HyunA about his feelings and their relationship.
