5 Times Korean Celebrities’ Family Members Got Involved In Their Business — For Better Or For Worse
When a celebrity gets put in the spotlight, netizens start to watch their every move. Although many family members of Korean celebrities can be private about their personal life, there are many instances where family members have spoken out about their famous relatives. Sometimes, they have even gotten involved in their business.
Here are five times family members have gotten involved in Korean celebrity’s business, for better… Or for worse.
1. Daisy’s Mom
When Daisy and MLD Entertainment were in conflict over Daisy’s contract as a member of MOMOLAND, MLD Entertainment released a statement explaining that Daisy’s mother had demanded the company remove her from MOMOLAND after Daisy’s dating news with iKON‘s Yunhyeong surfaced.
Back in February 14, 2019, a news report announce Daisy’s dating rumors. After checking with Daisy personally, we were able to get the truth and confirm the dating rumors.
3 days after the dating news, Daisy’s mom contacted our company and said, ‘Take Daisy out of MOMOLAND. We’re going to come get her next week.’ We asked Daisy about it, and she knew what was going on.

Although MLD Entertainment “suggested that [Daisy] should continue her hiatus,” rather than officially leaving the group, Daisy’s mother continued to demand an apology and financial “reimbursements” from the company.
Eventually, Daisy terminated her contract and sued MLD Entertainment, and the court ruled in Daisy’s favor.
Since then, Daisy has opened up about her departure from MOMOLAND, letting fans know that there was more going on behind the scenes than they realized as she was “fired” from MOMOLAND. But she quickly reassured fans that since “It’s been so long,” it no longer affects her.
2. Ahn Seo Hyun’s dad
When actress Ahn Seo Hyun was kicked off of KBS‘s School 2020, the producers released an official statement, claiming that the decision was made because of her father’s behavior.
In their statement, the producers alleged that “Ahn Seo Hyun’s father’s demands became too excessive for us to handle,” leaving them no choice but to remove her from the show.
Before we went ahead to sign with Ahn Seo Hyun for the show, her father made excessive demands multiple times over the course of the negotiation.
Despite that fact, we still tried to go ahead with Ahn Seo Hyun, but Ahn Seo Hyun’s father’s demands became too excessive for us to handle, which caused for us to make the difficult decision. When we decided to let her go, there was mutual agreement on both sides, and the notice of departure was just a one-sided claim made by Ahn Seo Hyun’s father.

The producers even suggested that they didn’t want to damage Ahn Seo Hyun’s reputation and tried to handle this situation “quietly,” but her father’s continued spreading of false information forced them “to announce [their] stance.”
We tried to wrap up the matters quietly in worry that it could harm the young actress. It was a difficult process, but due to Ahn Seo Hyun’s father spreading false information, we had no choice but to announce our stance. If this situation continues, we will reveal the entire process we had with actress Ahn Seo Hyun and take strong legal measures.

Despite the controversy, Ahn Seo Hyun was able to continue acting, most recently starring in the film Oh! My Ghost in 2022.
3. Huening Bahiyyih’s uncle
When Mnet‘s survival show Girls Planet 999 was airing, Kep1er‘s Huening Bahiyyih was subjected to immense hate. Because of the popularity of her brother, TXT‘s Hueningkai, netizens debated fiercely about Huening Bahiyyih’s participation in the show, leading to an excess of criticism and hate comments. Still, until the very end, Huening Bahiyyih’s fans supported her, with their impressive voting resulting in her becoming the second member of Kep1er.
Unfortunately, Huening Bahiyyih continued to receive hate comments, which her fans tried to get Play M Entertainment to protect her from. Although many netizens might assume that idols don’t see what is said about them online, Huening Bahiyyih’s uncle eventually spoke up, making netizens aware that “Bahiyyih knew about the controversy and the negativity during GP999.”
Still, her uncle clarified that he doesn’t think these “[then] current attacks” would affect her career, which has proven to be the case as Huening Bahiyyih continues to shine in Ke1per, proving her versatile skills and charms.
4. Song Joong Ki’s dad
When news of actor Song Joong Ki and actress Song Hye Kyo‘s divorce made headlines in 2019, Song Joong Ki’s father, Song Yong Gak, was not available for comment until eight days later. Before the actors’ divorce, Song Yong Gak had been incredibly supportive of Song Hye Kyo.
But in a later-revealed text message to his friends, Song Yong Gak took on part of the blame for the “bad news” of the divorce.
I am sorry for the sudden bad news. It seems like everything is because Joong Ki and I are lacking. We will faithfully end everything well.
Please give us a lot of encouragement and guidance, and watch over us. Have a healthy and happy day.
— Song Yong Gak
Recently, Song Joong Ki announced his marriage to Katy Louise Saunders and her pregnancy, which his parents refused to comment on.
We have nothing to say.

Still, Song Joong Ki and Katy Louise Saunders seem to be happily enjoying their married life.
5. Chaeryeong’s mom
When ITZY debuted, the group was propelled into stardom as fans couldn’t get enough of their concept, choreography, and immense talents. But despite the group’s success, Chaeryeong received many hate comments about her appearance.
The comments became so aggressive that Chaeryeong’s mother decided to speak up in defense of her daughter. She pointed out that “it’s very easy” for netizens to leave hateful comments about idols, but that doesn’t mean they should, especially since Chaeryeong had done nothing wrong.
It’s very easy for you to say hurtful things about Chaeryoung. She is a kid that just debuted, she is a person I treasure more than anyone. Even if you guys don’t find her pretty, you don’t have to leave hurtful comments on every article and video without hesitation. If she did anything that is bad then it’s fair to judge her. However, all you guys are doing is pointing at the appearance of a 19-year-old girl. Everyone has their own charms and everyone has their own preferences.
— Chaeryeong’s mom
Chaeryeong’s mother pleaded with netizens to stop leaving those sorts of comments.
It’s so sad and hurtful to see my innocent and precious daughter get scolded for her appearance. Chaeryeong is a kind and well-mannered child. Please look after her, you don’t have to be nice to her but please don’t be hurtful. Please.
— Chaeryeong’s mom
Fortunately, although online trolls continue to post negative comments about every idol, fans have become very vocal with compliments for Chaeryeong as she continues to shine on stage with her skills and gorgeous visuals.
