Korean Celebrities Who Started 2024 With Millions Worth Of Donations
Some of the top celebrities of South Korea, including K-Pop idols, actors, and music artists, decided to kick off this new year through their admirable philanthropy. Here are four such stars who donated millions for different causes:
1. IU
IU, who is often hailed for her endless philanthropy, started 2024 by making an accumulated donation of ₩200 million KRW (about $153,000 USD) to separate organizations. Her contribution went to four charities: Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers, Korea National Association of Child Welfare, Korean Unwed Mothers Families Association, and Korea Association of Welfare Institutions for Persons with Disabilities.
The money will be used by these organizations to provide heating for the winter to underprivileged households.
2. Kim Woo Bin
Actor Kim Woo Bin also welcomed the new year with a significant donation of ₩100 million KRW (about $76,300 USD) to the Asan Medical Center to assist underprivileged families. Notably, last week, the actor also sent presents to 200 children with cancer at the Assan Medical Center on Christmas Eve.
3. DinDin
Rapper DinDin joined the club of celebrities starting this year with philanthropy and donated ₩10.0 million KRW (about $7,630 USD) to the Korean Red Cross. The money will go toward helping young people who are set to leave group homes to prepare for life as adults.
4. Chungha
Chungha started her 2024 by donating ₩50.0 million KRW (about $38,100 USD) to the children’s welfare organization Green Umbrella. The idol has long been associated with them and has become a high-donation Green Noble Club member through her support since 2019.
Chungha’s donation will be used by the organization to cover surgery expenses for congenital cleft palate correction, fascial correction due to knee cancer, and other high-cost medical treatments for underprivileged children.
