5 Times K-Pop Idols Rocked The Iconic Yellow Plaid Look Inspired By “Clueless”
The classic 90’s film Clueless was considered a cultural reset by many. It coined many popular phrases like “As If” and continues to inspire fashion trends 25 years later.
K-Pop has frequently found outfit inspiration in Hollywood cinema and the preppy looks of Clueless‘s Cher Horowitz have proven quite popular. Here are 5 times K-Pop idols sported looks inspired by Cher’s yellow plaid.
1. Red Velvet’s Seulgi- “Wow Thing”
A special project put together by SM Entertainment‘s SM Station, this 90’s R&B inspired track saw a powerhouse combination of Chungha, GFriend‘s SinB, (G)I-DLE‘s Soyeon, and Red Velvet‘s Seulgi.
To add to that 90’s vibe, Seulgi was given a matching yellow plaid blazer and skirt combo reminiscent of what Cher wears in the film.
We can’t help but love this throwback look on Seulgi.
2. TWICE- “I Can’t Stop Me”
For TWICE‘s “I Can’t Stop Me”, the girls tried out many looks they hadn’t worn in MVs before including business wear but their most memorable looks were their yellow outfits.
To add a vintage tone to the train station scenes, the girls were put in yellow looks, some of which featured the iconic plaid.
Members Tzuyu and Jeongyeon specifically rocked that Clueless vibe with special shoutouts to Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung for the combination of blonde hair and yellow plaid.
3. Somi- “Dumb Dumb”
Somi‘s newest MV, “Dumb Dumb”, pulls references from multiple teen rom com tropes to give its video a unique charm.
Her costumes for this era also seem to be inspired by classic films with Studio Choom having shared her rocking the yellow plaid for her performance video. Her promotions may have just started but we can’t wait to see what other films she might reference during this era.4. Dalshabet- “FRI. SAT. SUN.”
Dalshabet was an underrated girl group with fun songs and an excellent sense of fashion.
For their final comeback as a group,”FRI. SAT. SUN.”, the girls rocked many 90’s inspired looks including grunge-y ripped jeans and punk rock red plaid. For one of their stages they wore the stylish and preppy yellow plaid.
While Dalshabet may not be performing as a group anymore, their legacy of good bops and great outfits lives on.
5. LOONA Yyxy- “love4eva (feat. Grimes)”
This LOONA subunit added to the LOONA-verse with their prep school MV.
In that MV the girls had a recognizable uniform that was an almost pitch perfect replica of Cher’s costume from Clueless down to the yellow sweater vest. Member Gowon even had her hair dyed a similar shade of blonde.
While the full yellow plaid look might be a bit loud for some, the girls of LOONA Yyxy not only pulled it off but made it look just as good as the original movie did.
