Professional K-Pop Vocal Trainer Names What Makes The Visuals Of JYP, SM, And YG Entertainment Artists Unique
WINNER‘s HOONY (also known as Lee Seunghoon) recently interviewed singer and vocal trainer Shin Youme. As someone who worked at JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment, training the likes of DAY6, TWICE, GOT7, and BLACKPINK, she agreed that she knows the styles of the big companies “better than others.”
Check out what she believes makes the visuals of some of the biggest K-Pop companies—SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and YG Entertainment—unique.
1. SM Entertainment
First up, SM Entertainment groups are well known for their visuals. Each generation has at least one stand-out singer who makes waves among fans and the general public: JYJ‘s Jaejoong, Girls’ Generation‘s Yoona, EXO‘s Sehun, Red Velvet‘s Irene, aespa‘s Karina and Winter, NCT‘s Jaehyun, and more.
Youme seemed to agree as well. According to her, their artists often have the kind of visuals that the general public would consider attractive.
SM seems to have a lot of typical handsome and pretty girl looks.
— Youme
The two agreed that SM Entertainment’s male and female idols are “a bit like a sculpture,” with HOONY likening them to the artwork “David” by Michaelangelo.
2. JYP Entertainment
JYP Entertainment, meanwhile, has a recurring type among their artists that is somewhat more specific. According to Youme, they often have “a pale skinned face and very pure look.” HOONY added that their duality is particularly notable.
[They’re] pure and innocent but also sexy on the inside. Like an innocent boy but a devil inside.
— Hoony
Their groups seem to fit this in general, namely, 2PM…
…TWICE…
…ITZY…
…Stray Kids…
…NMIXX, and more.
3. YG Entertainment
Last but certainly not the least, YG Entertainment has a distinct look that matches their vibe as a company that has its roots in hip hop.
HOONY: How about YG?
Youme: Seemingly very cold but [they are] cute and warm on the inside.
Their K-Pop groups are all chic, with examples being TREASURE, BABYMONSTER, WINNER, BLACKPINK, and BIGBANG. Though they all have different concepts, the individuality of the members from their skills to their visuals shines through.
