As we ring in 2025, here’s a look back on the progression that we have seen in K-Drama over the year 2024. As society progresses, South Korean television has also come to slowly include LGBTQ+ in mainstream shows. Here are some of our favorite characters.
1. Lee Do Han (“Wedding Impossible”)
He is a wealthy heir who fakes dating the female lead in order to mask his sexuality.
2. Kang San (“Fragile”)
He confesses to his best friend Chan Sung, who is the male lead. Later on, Chan Sung comes to accept his own sexuality.
3. Lim Ye Rim, Shim Eun Jung (“Pyramid Game”)
With Ye Rim’s reputation as a trainee, she cannot come out about her feelings. They are known publicly to be best friends, but later is threatened with their secret love.
4. Cho Hyun Ju (“Squid Game 2”)
A transgender, she enters Squid Game to win money for the life that she desires in Thailand.
5. Go Young (“Love In The Big City”)
The drama series spans a few of Go Young’s romantic relationships with men.
6. Sun Hae, Hye Won (“Light Shop”)
They face a tragic bus accident that sends them into the afterlife. Later on, they choose to remain in the afterlife as it means a life together.
