4 Places To Visit In South Korea If You Still Can’t Get Enough Of “Squid Game”
Still not over the hit K-Drama, Squid Game? Local governments in South Korea are turning locations used and mentioned in the K-Drama into places you can visit to further immerse yourself in the world of Squid Game.
The Korea Herald reported that local governments are promoting sites in their cities as tourist attractions following the massive success of Squid Game.
Here are 4 places you can visit in South Korea that have become tourist attractions for Squid Game fans!
1. Wolmi Theme Park
Wolmi Theme Park is located on Wolmido Island in Incheon.
In episode 2 of Squid Game, Jang Deok Su (Heo Sung Tae) met with his gang members in an amusement park, and the scene was filmed in Wolmi Theme Park.
In real life, Wolmi Theme Park is a much more wholesome place. Visitors have described the theme park as very quiet during the week, and you might even have a chance to have the park to yourself for a few hours! Admission to Wolmi Theme Park is free, but you do have to pay to ride the rides.
2. Kyodong Elementary School
Kyodong Elementary School is located in Seoul. The school was opened in 1894, and it is the oldest elementary school in South Korea.
Kyodong Elementary School was used in the opening shot of Squid Game. In the very first scene of the K-Drama, a boy presumed to be young Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) played the children’s game “squid game” with other boys from his neighborhood.
3. Deokjeok Island and Guleop Island
The island used in Squid Game was Seongap Island in Incheon.
SeongapK Island is private land, so it is not open to tourists. However, tourists can visit the neighboring islands Deokjeok and Guleop. These islands boast gorgeous beaches, and Deokjeok even hosts a music festival every summer!
4. Jeju Island
While Jeju Island doesn’t appear in Squid Game, it does get mentioned.
Kang Sae Byeok (Jung Ho Yeon) mentioned in episode 6 that she would go to Jeju Island if she won the prize money. She said that she wanted to visit Jeju because it looked “exotic and nothing like Korea.”
Jeju Island is truly just as gorgeous as Sae Byeok thought it would be. While visiting the island, tourists can see South Korea’s highest mountain, gorgeous beaches, volcanic craters, and a very NSFW adult theme park called Loveland.
