The Ice Bucket Challenge started in 2014 to promote the awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. This challenge encourages nominated participants to be filmed while having a bucket of ice water poured over their heads and then nominating someone else to do the same.

Commonly, the participants have 24 hours to accept or they will forfeit through a charitable donation, although many who take on the challenge still make a donation to the cause. The Ice Bucket Challenge gained the most attention in 2014 and 2015 but has been an annual occurrence since it’s beginning. This year, the challenge has had another boom with many K-Pop celebs taking part.
