Here Are The Eight Winners Of SMTOWN Wonderland 2021, The “Met Gala of K-Pop”
Dubbed by fans as “The Met Gala of K-Pop,” SM Entertainment‘s annual Halloween party, SMTOWN Wonderland, is one of the most anticipated events of the year for K-Pop fans. Idols dress up in extravagant and often unexpected costumes, a tradition started by SHINee back in 2013. This year, eight artists were awarded “SM Best Dresser” for having the best costumes!
Bronze: Ten (NCT)
NCT’s Ten tied for the Bronze award with his Ciel Phantomhive costume! Not only did he pull off the Black Butler main character’s look, but he also wore a second look and was edited into a picture with himself.
Bronze: Yeri (Red Velvet)
Red Velvet’s Yeri tied for the Bronze award as Shin Chae Kyung from the show Princess Hours! Yeri explained in the behind-the-scenes video that she’s been watching the show these days, which inspired her to choose this costume.
Silver: Taeyong & Jungwoo (NCT)
Taeyong and Jungwoo’s Twilight couple’s costume got them the Silver place award! After Jungwoo decided he wanted to be Bella, Taeyong agreed to be his partner and went as Edward. It’s definitely a look that’ll be remembered for years!
Gold: Giselle (aespa)
Giselle won the Gold award at her very first SMTOWN Wonderland! She dressed up as Harley Quinn, an iconic character from the DC comic book universe. She specifically took inspiration from the outfit worn by Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad!
Platinum: Shindong (Super Junior)
Shindong was awarded Platinum for his costume as Younghee, the doll from Squid Game. Not only did he show up fully in costume, but he had two game staff and even someone dressed as the tree behind Younghee in the show!
Diamond: Chenle (NCT)
Chenle won the Diamond award for his frightening and impressive costume: the nun from…well, The Nun (2018). He’s totally unrecognizable with the amount of makeup on his face. Chenle could easily take the place of the actual character in the movie!
Master: Onew (SHINee)
Last but certainly not least, Onew won the top prize: “Master!” Onew explained in a behind-the-scenes video that he always wanted to try dressing up as The Penguin because he thought he was the scariest villain in the Batman series other than the Joker. Even though Onew said he wasn’t satisfied with how the makeup came out, fans agree he totally aced it!
The winners donated their prize money to The Beautiful Foundation to “support expenses needed by youth transitioning out of foster care.” Congratulations to the winners, and check out a full list of this year’s SMTOWN Wonderland costumes below!
