10 Times Weki Meki’s Choi Yoojung Proved She’s The Queen Of Boy Group Covers
Although Weki Meki‘s Yoojung is well known for her cute, bright persona, the idol shows her duality whenever she takes the stage. Her fierce expressions and hard-hitting moves perfectly lend themselves to destroying any boy group choreography she tries.
Here are 10 times she proved that she is the expert on boy group covers.
1. AB6IX’s “Breathe”
It comes as no surprise that Yoojung performed a perfect cover of AB6IX‘s debut song, nailing all the small details at a fan meet’s impromptu performance.
2. BTS’s “Fire”
Golden Tamborine was a short-lived variety show where the hosts and guests competed for who could perform the more entertaining song cover. As one of the hosts, Yoojung performed a detailed cover of BTS‘s “Fire” with fellow teammate Yoo Se Yoon and rapper Flowsik.
Dressed as BTS’s Suga, Yoojung even proved that she can sing live while executing the intricate choreography flawlessly.
3. GOT7‘s “Hard Carry”
When she made a guest appearance on Mafia Game in Prison, Yoojung prepared a cover of GOT7‘s song, “Hard Carry.” And host of the show, Jay B (formerly known as JB), was initially surprised to hear his own song but quickly joined in the performance with her.
4. MONSTA X‘s “Shoot Out”
When Yoojung danced to MONSTA X‘s “Shoot Out” on her birthday VLIVE, with her members cheering her on in the background, even some MONSTA X members took notice.
Member Minhyuk heralded her as having the best cover, telling Yoojung directly when Weki Meki appeared on Back to the Idol this past September.
5. NCT 127’s “Kick It”
Yoojung has performed NCT 127‘s “Kick It” on many shows, and her powerful execution of the choreography even had the choreographer, Jung Koosung, complimenting her style of dance.
6. PSY’s “New Face”
When Weki Meki made their debut appearance on Weekly Idol with fellow rookies Golden Child, Yoojung did not hold back during the random dance play. As soon as PSY‘s “New Face” started playing and fellow member Doyeon screamed her name, Yoojung ran to the center. She showed not only her strong execution but her variety show style humor.
7. SEVENTEEN’s “Snap Shoot”
Yoojung regularly works with one of SEVENTEEN‘s choreographers, zdae. The two of them have performed a lot of covers together. One of their standout performances is SEVENTEEN’s “Snap Shoot,” where Yoojung showcased her light, playful vibe while still hitting all the moves with power and strength.
8. Stray Kids’ “Back Door”
On a segment on SBS Radio, Yoojung promised to perform a cover of Stray Kids‘ “Back Door,” and when she came back for her following interview, she came through with her promise. She performed the complex moves with extreme sharpness and control, shocking the hosts.
9. SuperM’s “Tiger Inside”
Fellow labelmate ASTRO‘s Moonbin and Yoojung recently had a VLIVE together where they taught each other different dances. After only spending about 10 minutes learning from Moonbin, Yoojung already had a great cover of SuperM‘s “Tiger Inside.” Still, months later, she blessed fans by uploading a more formal cover of the challenging song. And, as always, she nailed every move.
10. And, finally, a medley of covers with K-Pop cover dancer Ellen
Studio Choom allowed Yoojung to express her expertise in boy group dances by compiling a medley of dance covers. She performed with Ellen, a K-Pop cover dancer based in L.A, and together the two showed their skill through…
EXO’s “Love Shot”
BTS’s “Idol”
NCT U’s “Boss”
WANNAONE’s “Spring Breeze”
and BTS’s “DNA”
And for her next upcoming cover, Yoojung has hinted that she might perform MONSTA X’s “Rush Hour.”
But whatever cover she puts out next, Yoojung will inevitably keep proving just how powerful she is as a dancer and why she is the undisputed queen of boy group covers.
