SM Entertainment to debut its first boy group since EXO in 2016
SM Entertainment‘s next boy group and future successor of popular male idol groups such as TVXQ, Super Junior, SHINee, and EXO will be making their debut next year.
The upcoming male idol group will most likely consist of members from SMROOKIES, SME’s pre-debut team that consists of trainees who are close to making their debut. Past members include Red Velvet members’ Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Yeri.
Since the launch of SMROOKIES, SME has promoted the pre-debut team through broadcast (Disney Channel Korea‘s Mickey Mouse Club) and more. Two of its members have already worked as MCs for the music show Show Champion as well.
SME has shown great spacing when debuting new boy groups with the average pattern being about four years. TVXQ debuted in 2004, Super Junior in 2005, SHINee in 2008, and EXO in 2012.
Though any details weren’t divulged, an SME official confirmed with X Sports News, “It’s true we are getting a new group ready.”
