2023 World Scout Jamboree K-Pop Concert Violates Safety Regulations
The 2023 World Scout Jamboree will conclude with a dynamite K-Pop Concert. The line-up sounds amazing, with ITZY, NewJeans, THE BOYZ, and more slated to perform.
To be held on August 11, 2023, the concert will take place just a day after the Typhoon Khanun hits South Korea. With time running out and the weather worsening, rehearsals were canceled in favor of a sound check on the day of the concert itself.
While the concert stage was being installed on August 8, 2023, it was soon pointed out that the installation violated the Occupational Safety and Health Act, with no safety railings installed to prevent falls. Some of the workers were also not wearing safety belts. These belts held support the body in the event of a fall.
The Korean Confederation of Trade Union’s Construction Union complained about the lack of safety for the construction workers during the installation of the stage set-up. They warned that the organizational committee violated a number of acts in the Industrial Safety Act, which helps ensure that organizers take sufficient safety measures to prevent workers from falling.
In addition, there are no life lines or cables installed at the top. Work platforms were not sufficiently installed on all floors, with a lack of ladder between floors as well. The head of the union suggested that “as the government is urgently preparing for the concert, basic safety measures were not being taken at the stage installion site,” inferring that the lack of time resulted in a compromise of safety for the workers.
This adds to the long list of complaints with regards to the poor organization of the 2023 World Scout Jamboree and the K-Pop concert being held for its finale.
