29-Year-Old Set To Debut In 5th Generation K-Pop Group
When new groups debut, fans often first look into the idol’s age. Due to the favoring of younger stars, especially when it comes to female idols, it is not uncommon for a group to have one or several members who are still teenagers.
Because of this, netizens often look for idols who go against this practice, giving attention to those who debut “later” in life. For example, the now-disbanded XEED attracted attention because the youngest member was 26 at their debut.
Now, netizens are thrilled as another idol will go against these standards and make her debut.
Over the last few months, the survival show Girls On Fire has aired with the premise of debuting a five-membered girl group of all main vocalists.
On June 25, the final episode aired, with the top five being declared the winners.
The line-up includes Hwang Seyoung, also known as søye, who finished in second place overall.
Hwang Seyoung may be familiar to many as she has been active in the industry, first appearing on and being eliminated from Produce 101. After another survival show appearance, the star made her solo debut as Sesang in 2020.
She would release a few more digital singles before it was announced she would appear on Girls On Fire.
Seyoung was born in November 1994, making her 29 years old and the oldest of the group’s members. There is a age gap between her and the youngest member, Yang Irae, but all of the members are adults.
As part of the show’s prize, the group will receive ₩200 million KRW (about $144,000 USD), an album release, a national concert tour, and a global showcase. Will you be checking them out once they debut later this year?
