3 Films & Dramas Starring K-Pop Stars Invited To Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes International Film Festival has always been one of the events film fans from all over the world look forward to the most. Similarly to recent years, this year’s festival has also invited many Korean stars to attend, raising expectations for their red-carpet appearances as well. Among everyone else, these three K-Pop stars stand out.
The 76th Cannes International Film Festival will be held on May 16, with BLACKPINK‘s Jennie, f(x)‘s Krystal, and Bibi being expected to attend.
1. BLACKPINK’s Jennie
While it’s still undecided, Jennie is expected to attend as part of the cast of the upcoming American drama TV series The Idol. This was Jennie’s first acting challenge, and fans can’t wait to see her highly anticipated performance. Alongside Jennie, other cast members like Lily-Rose Depp, The Weeknd, and Troye Sivan are expected to attend as well.

The Idol centers around Lily-Rose Depp’s character, Jocelyn, who is an aspiring pop idol. Following a nervous breakdown that causes her tour to be canceled, she resolves to reclaim her title as the sexiest pop star in America. In the process, she enters a complicated relationship with a self-help guru and head of a contemporary cult, who is portrayed by The Weeknd. Jennie will play a supporting character, Angel, details of whom have not been released yet.

2. f(x)’s Krystal
Following the invite received by the latest movie Krystal will star in, Spider House, the K-Pop star turned actress may also make an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is invited as part of the non-competition section of the festival.
Spider House sees Krystal star next to Song Kang Ho, popular for his lead role in Oscar-winning film Parasite. The movie, described as a black comedy, is set in the 1970s and is centered around a movie director who fails to move past his belief that re-shooting the ending of his own movie will make it more successful. Spider House will also show the process of the director shooting with several actors who don’t understand the changes in the script, as well as the national authorities who try to censor his movie. Krystal portrays a rising new actress, Han Yoo Rim, who stars in the director’s movie.
3. Bibi
Lastly, Bibi is also anticipated to appear on the Cannes red carpet next to popular co-star Song Joong Ki. Bibi’s agency even expressed their gratitude for the invite saying how honored they are to be invited to the dream stage of filmmakers around the world.
Part of the cast for Hwaran Bibi plays Ha Yan, the younger sister of Hong Sa Bin‘s character, Yeon Kyu. The siblings live in a very bleak situation, and to get them out of poverty, Yeon Kyu joins a criminal organization. There he meets Song Joong Ki’s character, Chi Gun, a mid-level boss in the criminal group.
