He had a statement prepared.

Actor Yoo Ah In once again appeared at the Seoul High Court on December 24, where prosecutors reiterated their demand for a four-year prison sentence. Yoo is currently appealing a previous ruling tied to charges of habitual drug use, including the abuse of substances like propofol and ketamine.

During the hearing, Yoo was clad in a mint-colored prison uniform as he expressed deep regret for his actions in a prepared statement. He apologized to those he had hurt — including his family, fans, and colleagues — and admitted to the disappointment and harm caused by his behavior.

“I want to sincerely apologize to everyone I have hurt and disappointed. I caused irreparable pain to my parents, who are now deeply wounded. I also disappointed and hurt my colleagues, associates, and fans who had placed infinite trust in me. My actions were betrayal and illegal. I deeply reflect on my wrongdoing.

I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect, and I am committed to correction and recovery. In front of the public who are observing me and alongside those I am with here, I make a solemn pledge with unwavering determination before this sacred court.

No matter where I am, I will never lose sight of the gravity of my crimes. I will keep a sound mind and never betray my conscience. I earnestly ask for a chance to contribute to society with a firm resolve toward learning and life. I will face the world with greater maturity and health.”

Yoo Ah In’s legal troubles date back to last year when he was charged with consuming drugs over 180 times between 2020 and 2022 and illegally obtaining sleeping pills. He was also accused of smoking marijuana during a trip to the United States with acquaintances. In September, the court sentenced him to one year in prison and imposed a fine. However, both Yoo and the prosecution filed appeals with the former seeking leniency and the latter arguing for a stricter sentence.

Yoo’s legal team has emphasized that his actions stemmed from dependency during a challenging period rather than deliberate malice. The court is set to deliver its final verdict on February 18, 2024.
