Actress Gong Hyo Jin Tells All About Kevin Oh’s “Disappointing” Marriage Proposal
Back in October 2022, When The Stars Gossip lead actress Gong Hyo Jin (also known as Kong Hyo Jin) tied the knot with her now-husband Kevin Oh in an intimate ceremony in New York—only six months after admitting her relationship with the singer 10 years younger than her in April of the same year.
Since then, the actress has been sharing snippets of her wedding and married life via Instagram updates. But it was in the latest episode of YouTube‘s “Zzanbro” show with comedian Shin Dong Yup that she spilled long-awaited details about the proposal that put her on an emotional rollercoaster ride.

When asked about how Kevin proposed, the actress said it came rather unexpectedly. Kevin popped the question while walking the actress’s dogs by the Bukhan River.
We were at the Bukhan River to walk my dogs. We were hanging out, eating hamburgers and having fun when suddenly he said he bought a new camera and wanted to test it out. I didn’t think much of it, but out of nowhere, he asked, ‘[Would] you marry me?’ He didn’t even have a ring.

Feeling some ways about the ring-less proposal, the actress joked that she “invalidated” his first attempt and told him to try again. Except, when the two got back to the actress’s house, she realized that Kevin had put together a surprise: The actual proposal.
I was like, ‘Where is it? Where’s the ring?’ but he said he didn’t have one. So I told him, ‘Then try again later. This doesn’t count. It’s invalid.’ I was so disappointed, thinking, ‘What even is this?!’ But when we got home, it turned out he had actually prepared something special for me.

Gong Hyo Jin said the at-home proposal made her far more emotional. Between the flower petals and handwritten notes, and of course, a ring, the actress was so overwhelmed that she ended up bursting into tears.
I got home to flower petals scattered leading up to the door. He also laid out a series of handwritten cards along the path. I couldn’t hold back my tears. He’s so good at writing… The cards told our love story in such a dramatic way. He also left out photos and paintings of us together. When I walked through the door, he proposed to me with a ring.

To that, Shin Dong Yup made note that Kevin was clever for letting her down first to make the real deal feel even more special. The actress laughed and agreed that it’s certainly one way to make the proposal memorable!
