The future of NewJeans‘ activities are looking growingly uncertain with the latest announcement from ADOR.

The content in question, “Light Jeans,” basically refers to behind-the-scenes videos of the NewJeans members during photoshoots or other official schedules. This marked the first cancelled schedule of NewJeans since the members’ unilateral decision to depart from ADOR, which they announced in a surprise press conference last November. ADOR had responded by filing a lawsuit to figure out the legality of this decision and had announced that they would proceed with all planned schedules and advertisements in the meantime. The members also expressed their willingness to fulfil their commitments, so as not to cause harm to any parties involved.
Previously, on January 4, KST, NewJeans officially concluded their final schedule as a part of ADOR and HYBE, with a pre-recorded performance for the Golden Disc Awards. According to industry insiders, though the members still have some pending advertising-related shoots, they have fulfilled all the performance-related schedules. They also independently appeared on a radio show without informing ADOR on December 25, inviting scrutiny.
With a pending lawsuit and their first cancelled scheduled content, NewJeans’ future activities are facing major conflicts. According to an industry expert, if the members proceed with any future activities independently before the legal matters between them and ADOR are settled, they could get in further legal trouble. The group’s Vietnamese-Australian member Hanni‘s visa renewal could also cause significant hindrance in the group being fully active together if the contract termination is legally recognized.
