aespa Breaks All-Time Record For K-Pop Debut Music Video Views With “Black Mamba”
With an unprecedented level of attention, aespa‘s debut music video for “Black Mamba” has broken the all-time record for most-viewed K-Pop debut music video in 24 hours!
As of 6PM Korean standard time on November 18, “Black Mamba” had 21.4 million views on YouTube, giving it the highest 24-hour view count for a debut MV in K-Pop history.
Previously, ITZY held the record for most-viewed debut music video in 24 hours, racking up 17.1 million views with “Dalla Dalla”.
TXT wasn’t far behind with 15.1 million views for “Crown”. YG Entertainment‘s new boy group TREASURE previously had the highest day one debut music video views for 2020, coming in at 9.1 million views with “Boy”.
On top of beating out the rest of K-Pop’s rookies, aespa also landed at the #4 spot on the list of 2020’s most viewed girl group music videos in the first 24 hours. “Black Mamba” surpassed TWICE‘s 19.1 million views with “More & More”, sitting behind BLACKPINK‘s three releases from this year.
The total first day “Black Mamba” view count also makes it the most viewed SM Entertainment girl group music video in 24 hours, surpassing Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi‘s record of 11.4 million views with “Monster”. They take the second place spot in the company’s overall 24-hour view ranking, just behind NCT U‘s 25.3 million views with make a wish.
Of course, that’s not the only feat these ultimate “Monster Rookies” achieved. Among numerous other achievements, they’re the first female rookie group this year to reach 1 million followers on Instagram.
Plus, they had the highest peak on the major Korean charts (Melon, Genie, and Bugs) out of all female rookies this year, surpassing many male rookie groups too.
The group is also doing great internationally, reaching #1 on the iTunes chart in 8 countries so far. No matter what you thought of their debut track, aespa’s achievements prove they’re definitely one of the biggest 4th generation acts to watch right now.
