Grimes Is Officially A Fan Of aespa
Aespa is the latest K-Pop group on Grimes’ stan list—here’s what she said about them on Instagram.
Despite being a Canadian singer-songwriter, Grimes is well-known to the K-Pop community. Back in 2018, she lent her voice to the opening lines of “love4eva” by LOONA yyxy.
Last year, Grimes even named LOONA’s Gowon the godmother of her son (though she never confirmed how serious she was).
This year, the star has shown even more love for K-Pop artists. In July, she and BLACKPINK’s Jennie were seen posing for photos together.
Later that month, she stated that a G-Dragon album one of her prized possessions in a TikTok clip, referring to him as “an icon and a god, one of my biggest influences.”
Now, she’s showing her love for aespa too. Yesterday, Grimes announced that she’d be launching her own AI girl group this week. Today, she finally unveiled the five-piece act: NPC, made up of virtual members Oxytocin, Cortisol, Adrenaline, Dopamine, and Tomorrow.
Of course, NPC isn’t the first group on the pop scene with artificial members. One of the best AI-themed girl groups right now is none other than SM Entertainment’s rookie girl group aespa, whose for members all have virtual “æ” counterparts.
Naturally, MYs (aespa’s fandom) were quick to wonder whether Grimes is aware of the K-Pop quartet. One fan on Instagram by the name of yoshinorimeu commented on the NPC debut announcement, “DO YOU KNOW AESPA”—and to their surprise, Grimes responded within minutes.
And the singer-songwriter was filled with nothing but respect for the act! “I literally have been emailing their manager all the time,” Grimes revealed, adding, “I love them.”

Grimes has previously been seen liking and commenting on aespa teasers…

… and she recently liked a tweet asking her to work with the group. However, this is the first time she’s been so vocal about her love for them.

Interestingly, aespa actually has something more in common with Grimes than AI members. The letter “æ” in the group’s name is also part of Grimes’ 1-year-old son’s name, X Æ A-XII (pronounced “ex ash ay twelve”).
While Grimes’s liked tweets indicate that a collab with aespa may already be on her mind, time will only tell if it comes to fruition.
