Korean Netizens Fire Back At International Criticism Stemming From aespa Karina’s Relationship
Viral comments under an article criticizing aespa fans have started a heated debate.
On March 8, a post titled “Comments Under An Article About Karina’s Apology” went viral. In the post, the author uploaded the title of an article lamenting the criticism from Karina’s fans, which led to the idol uploading an apology.
Foreigners Label Korean Fans As Mentally Disabled After Karina Uploads Dating Apology.

The author of the post then posted several comments that had gone viral from the article.
- (Korean fans) are mentally disabled… Their fandom has become convoluted into something nasty.
- It isn’t so disappointing. It’s because of these crazy fans that idols make crazy amounts of money. If fans were mentally stable, the entertainment industry would go broke.
Netizens reacted to the viral comments, with many from both sides arguing their cases. While some felt that it is thanks to these hardcore fans that K-Pop is so successful, others criticized the fans for their obsessive infatuation with the stars.
- If fans are a problem, then so is the idol business. Idols can only make money, thanks to these fans.
- Celebrities overseas have crazy fans, too, when they reveal their relationship, and despite sometimes even fighting them, they are able to go on with their careers, lol. K-Pop idols can’t do that because if the fans leave, they won’t make money, so that’s why they ask their fans to stay.
- I’m sure that this particular culture, which is found nowhere in the world but in Japan and Korea, didn’t find its roots naturally.
- I hope K-Pop’s culture changes so that the idols’ parents and partners can enjoy the idols at their concerts… Who made the rules stating that idols can’t date?
- I agree with both sides.
- The box full of albums and hard work doesn’t excuse fans from leaving hateful comments. Only the worst fans think they can be abusive to their idols because they spent money on them. Is there a particular reason why they are forcing themselves to leave their respective fandoms?
- I do think they need to understand the feelings of their consumers if they want to make money… Selling an imaginary relationship to fans and then telling them not to be in one is undercutting their own business. I’m not a fan by the way.
- I agree with the second comment.
- It’s still so weird having to apologize for being in a relationship.
