aespa’s Winter Reveals How She Almost Ended Up In Another Company

She could’ve been in a different group.

aespa‘s Winter almost ended up in a different company. Although she has happily signed to SM Entertainment, things could have gone a lot differently if fate had not stepped in. During a recent livestream, Winter told the story of how she was about to sign with another label.

Winter was originally casted at a school festival. Casting does not give you an automatic in. One usually has to go through private auditions after they are casted. She had auditioned at SM Entertainment once, it seemed like the label did not feel as if she would be a good fit, so she auditioned at other companies. Winter received an offer from a different label and was right about to sign with them. It seemed like she gave them a verbal agreement, but decided to hit up her casting agent at SM Entertainment one last time before she truly put pen to paper. As fate would have it, the agent asked to see her once more, and signed her in the end!

I received an offer from another company actually. Although I can’t tell you which company, we were really right about to sign. We agreed to sign the contract actually. But I had maintained a good relationship with the SM Entertainment staff who cast me, so I told them that I would probably sign with that label. So they said they wanted to see me before I truly went with the other contract. So right before I was going to sign, I thought to myself, well if it works out, then sure, if not, then it’s okay. It was really a short period of time [between my last meeting with SM Entertainment] and then, so I guess I showed the staff at SM Entertainment that I was able to improve in such a short span. So unexpectedly, they asked me to try training with them, and that was how I ended up entering SM Entertainment.
