A memorial post by Ahn Hyun Mo, a former reporter and current TV personality, has caused quite a stir online.
On December 30, Ahn posted a photo with a caption on her Instagram story.
“Although I’ve been on planes on Friday, Saturday, and even today for several days, getting on and off the plane was all out of luck. It was all something to be thankful for.
The more I think about it, even inhaling and exhaling can be heartbreaking.”

However, her memorial post sparked controversy as she expressed it was “luck” that allowed her to get on and off the plane safely while the country was mourning over the victims.
Korean netizens felt that she had gone a bit overboard with her memorial post.
- “The only people who can say it was luck are those who canceled their tickets and didn’t get on that plane. Who is she to talk about luck..those people did not die because they didn’t have luck..”
- “What is the reason for posting something like this?”
- “She can think by herself…did she have to post it?”
- “She should have done a simple memorial post instead of writing all that.”
- “She’s basically saying, ‘I didn’t die because I’m lucky.’”
