Girl Group ALICE Gets Called Out For Allegedly Mocking IVE’s Jang Wonyoung

IVE‘s Jang Wonyoung once faced much backlash and mockery after she appeared on The Manager. In the show, she was seen eating a huge strawberry with two hands. Many felt that she was trying to act cute or prim and proper. Although she was acting harmlessly, her single action went viral to the point where content creators started parodying her mockingly.

Later, the public began to shield Wonyoung as the hate reached an unwarranted level. They defended the teen and shamed those who mocked her over a simple action.

Half a year after the initial incident, the girl group ALICE has come under fire for allegedly mocking Wonyoung. Fans began to trend “ALICE APOLOGIZE TO WONYOUNG” after a video of the girl group purposely proposing to film themselves eating strawberries with both hands surfaced.

The girls received huge strawberries in their waiting room and began to eat them.

  • Off-screen member: “Can you eat them with both hands?”

  • Yeonje: “Eating them with both hands. Let’s count to three and bite into it together.”
  • Sohee: “Are you going to eat them like ohn-nom-nom (nibbles) or ang (huge bite)?”
  • Yeonje: “Let’s go with ohm-nom-nom.” [laughter]
  • Chaejeong: “I couldn’t do it. I can’t look.”
  • Sohee: “Shall we eat the strawberry?”

The clip soon went viral on Twitter, with over 567,000 views at the time of writing. Fans from all over the world began to demand an apology from ALICE, calling out the girls for allegedly mocking Wonyoung.

While some called the matter “not serious,” others continued to defend Wonyoung, claiming that jumping to an idol’s defense only becomes an issue if it involves Wonyoung.

Wonyoung received huge amounts of senseless hate for the original incident.

In addition, fans have brought up the fact that ALICE members have a history of mocking and imitating other idols. Bella once imitated Wanna One Lai Kuan Lin‘s Korean accent. This is a sensitive matter as he is not Korean and has made efforts to study the language diligently.

IOK Company has not issued a statement on the matter yet.
