Apink Eunji Confessed She Struggles With Depression
Eunji may be known for her bright television persona, but it turns out that she was hiding pain that no one knew about.
Apink‘s Eunji was featured in a recent issue of CéCi where she confessed that she had been suffering from bouts of depression. Even with the massive success of her solo album and her title track “Hopeful Sky”, Eunji couldn’t help but feel empty—as if she was lacking something.
Even with the massive success of her solo album and her title track “Hopeful Sky”, Eunji couldn’t help but feel empty—as if she was lacking something. Contrary to her typical outgoing personality, she didn’t want to go out or meet people and socialize.
“I thought I was a very strong and positive person but last year I didn’t want to go out and meet anyone new. I couldn’t control my own feelings and I even ran away when I was supposed to meet someone. I usually enjoy meeting new people as I drink but being alone brought a lot of sad thoughts and made me realize ‘ah, I have this side to me too.'”

Thankfully, Eunji has recovered from her depressive state and revealed that she is feeling better now. When asked, she shared how she overcame her depression through the power of music and the catharsis afforded to her by watching sad dramas that made her release her emotions in private.
“I would write lyrics and I surprised myself with what I wrote. Unfortunately, for me, writing about my feelings didn’t help at all. But what did help was getting my own studio. I think learning how to compose and play the piano helped make me stronger. I also released a lot of my emotions while watching dramas. I usually don’t watch dramas but in 2016 I watched a lot of them. I don’t like to cry in front of anyone so I cried alone while watching dramas.”

Here’s hoping Eunji stays strong.
