Artist Accuses Popular 4th Gen Girl Group Of Stealing From Her
A stylist has accused XG of stealing her designs.
XG are known for always delivering musically, but also style-wise as well. From concept to concept, the group’s fashion and visuals always leave a lasting impact on even non-fans.
On July 26, the group’s latest single “Something Ain’t Right,” was released, ahead of ther second mini-album.
In the days before, the track was teased online, including concept photos and teaser video featuring Chisa. Chisa is styled in an elaborate and over-the-top outfit meant to mimic an office worker’s.
This particular styling has resulted in accusations of plagiarism from an artist online.
Just before the release of the single, a designer named Alifya claimed that the design of Chisa’s glasses was stolen from her. She shared that her design was originally a project for an assignment that went viral after being posted by another artist, sharing her original tweet from October 2023.
Never thought this would happen to me but here we are lmao. XG @XGOfficial_ stealing the designs of a small artist (me) for their upcoming MV pic.twitter.com/GuqQTPI7PR

I made these glasses for a uni project in materiality. They went viral after being reposted by @gastt_fashion on Instagram and I’ve subsequently received a lot of styling pulls and requests for magazines and artists… if XG wanted them they could’ve asked! https://t.co/XSKIge2KsU

Many online defended the design on Chisa, saying that glasses with hanging adornments were not a new concept. In particular, several pointed out that Gentle Monster has released multiple pairs of glasses with similar features.
No hate but I really don't see the resemblance 😭 chisa's glasses are more similar to the gentle monster new design not yours :3 https://t.co/NjwlOQguf4 pic.twitter.com/wMMJOFBJyz

this is such a reach im sorry like glasses with hanging accessories/charms have been a thing for such a long time and the ones you’re comparing with chisa’s look nothing alike 😭 https://t.co/27O8DKB8GI pic.twitter.com/HW1RfoyqS6

Normally I would agree but this is such a reach lol. You're not the first person to try these types of designs. I know that xg are culture vultures but come on they look nothing alike. https://t.co/lkmeam3a5Z pic.twitter.com/VgLJj6vmqr

In response to these comparisons, the artist pointed out that the examples given did not address the specific details of her glasses.
She compared her work and the glasses seen on Chisa, stating that the manner in which the glasses were adorned was the same, and mimicked the appearance of “liquid metal.”
geometric shapes.
The glasses I’ve made and the ones featured by XG are organic(!), have no fixed shape, resemble metal that is liquified. I personally achieved this with soft soldering. Notice also the placement and even shape of certain metal adornments + the hanging chains pic.twitter.com/fuuX0YTmNp

Still, many felt that calling it stealing was inaccurate, mentioning that the style has been trending for several months and might have been a coincidence as a result.
im also a fashion student, a while ago desgined a skirt with my own graphic design on it, the next day i saw the exact same skirt online by a local brand. im just trying to say coincidences can happen in the world of fashion, so pls dont jump to conclusion like this. https://t.co/ljcLEy9MFI

idk man but other than the concept these are two different things
and you cant own a concept https://t.co/Eo7ntfJC6r

coincidences in creating art are possible, especially with everyone searching for some inspo online, we might see the same stuff, similar ideas can emerge.. so looking at this, imo, these are just two designs that coincidentally have the same inspiration https://t.co/DQhSwNFESO

XGALX has not addressed the accusations as of writing.
