Beomgyu Earns Praise For His Quick Thinking After TXT’s “2022 MMA” Performance Didn’t Go According To Plan

With peers and viewers watching worldwide, he flawlessly improvised his solo moment.

TXT has had a busy week, attending an award show in the United States at the 2022 American Music Awards (AMAs) before jetting back to Korea to attend the 2022 Melon Music Awards (MMA).

The group not only attended the ceremony, but they also performed. Their 10-minute intricate performance told a fairytale-like story with the members onstage acting interwoven with pre-recorded videos to help enhance the cinematic feel of the stage.

An introduction led to a dance break, which effortlessly transitioned into a performance of TXT’s “Good Boy Gone Bad.”

Before the song’s final chorus, the group added a dance break. Towards the end of the dance break, Beomgyu took center stage with a lighter, which he opened to a flame before closing it and motioning behind him. When he motioned, flames lit up the screens at the back of the stage, and pyrotechnics launched from the front of the stage.

The mesmerizing display paired with Beomgyu’s acting seemingly went off without a hitch, but a newly released rehearsal video of their 2022 MMAs performance showed Beomgyu’s part ending differently.

In their official dance practice video, Beomgyu is seen pulling out a rose and setting it on fire before throwing it behind him.

The moment was a nod to the “Good Boy Gone Bad” concept photos, where each member posed with a rose in their mouth, tipped to a lighter.

A fancam from the 2022 MMAs seemed to catch the moment Beomgyu realized he was missing his rose, which may have fallen out of his jacket during their intense choreography.

In the video, Beomgyu is seen searching his jacket while Hueningkai helps. They couldn’t find it, but the show had to go on.

Seeing how the performance was intended to go, netizens and fans praised Beomgyu’s quick thinking, effortlessly pulling off an improvised performance and proving his incredible professionalism.

TXT took home the award for “Best Performance: Male,” which they certainly proved with their impressive performance during the award show.
