The second photo of the post was of her and Chen himself, and he shared a similar picture on his own Instagram.

While many fans were excited about the collaboration, however, the discovery of Chen’s problematic and scandalous history has dampened the excitement and has led to criticism towards Jennie for working with such a person, especially since it seems that it was Jennie’s idea herself.

One of Chen’s earliest scandals occurred in 2007. In his mid-20s at the time, he got into an altercation with a taxi driver that led to Chen kicking the car multiple times, causing extensive damage including dents and breaking all of the windows. Because of his actions, he was charged by the police, placed on a one-year good behavior bond, and fined HK$4,700 (~$600 USD) for the damages done to the taxi.

This was arguably his least problematic offense. In 2008, he was caught up in a widely publicized sex scandal in which nude and sexually explicit photographs of himself with numerous female celebrities began spreading on the internet. The women involved included Cecilia Cheung, Gillian Chung, and Bobo Chan, among others, as well as Chen’s ex-girlfriend Vincy Yeung. This led to serious damage to the reputation of everyone involved in the scandal, and Chen ended up making a public apology and announced an indefinite departure from the Hong Kong entertainment industry.

Despite his apparent remorse for the scandal, though, in 2011 he was involved in yet another one, and this time it was much worse. Pictures of Edison Chen, who was 31 at the time, and then-16-year-old model Cammi Tse were revealed to the public, showing the two hugging and kissing. Cammi had apparently lost her phone, which led to the leak of the images and text messages sent between the two.

While there weren’t any nude photos shared, it was later revealed that Tse lost her virginity to the older man, and that he had asked her to pose for him in swimsuits and school uniforms. Cammi also shared that Chen had indeed filmed a two-minute video of her in an intimate manner.

All of this would have been problematic enough if Cammi had been an adult, but the fact that she was just 16 makes Chen’s filming of the model child pornography in many places. However, since the age of consent in Hong Kong is 16, he didn’t face any charges.

Because of these scandals and other issues regarding Edison Chen, Jennie has been getting backlash for not only collaborating with the CLOT owner, but for promoting him by posing with him on her Instagram account.
