Jennie recently released the single “Mantra” and has been promoting it in various ways. The idol also appeared on music shows in Korea, pre-recording her performance in advance.

Before the October 19th edition of MBC‘s MusicCore, it seemed like Jennie, aespa Karina’s “Up,” and QWER‘s “My Name Is Malgeum” would be the three songs for nomination. A popular account known for analyzing music show scores shared a pre-show count, showing the top three have a wide margin of points from the next highest artist.

However, during the episode of MusicCore, rather than Jennie being nominated, boy group AB6IX were up for the win, with Karina ultimately winning.

Fans questioned what possibly happened, what the unconfirmed consensus being that because the music video for “Mantra” was the “explicit” version containing the word “ass,” points for SNS (also known as music video views) were removed.

Many fans were outraged by this alleged decision, and called out MBC for allegedly snubbing Jennie. Many did not blame the boy group, but compared the lyrics of “Mantra” and AB6IX’s “NVCKED,” saying that there was a misogynistic double standard at play.
