BLACKPINK’s Jennie To Make Her Acting Debut Under “Jennie Ruby Jane”— Here’s What We Know About The Meaning Behind Her Name
Last month, it was officially confirmed that BLACKPINK‘s Jennie would be making her acting debut in the upcoming HBO series The Idol after it had been previously reported she was offered a role.
The series is co-created by Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd, Euphoria‘s Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim. The first teaser was released in July, showing French American actress Lily-Rose Depp playing an up-and-coming pop idol named Jocelyn and Jennie appearing to be a dancer.
Today, a second teaser was released, giving more insight into Jennie’s role on the show. The new teaser shows that Jennie’s and Lily Rose-Depp’s characters are friends as they sit together in a sauna before going on a joy ride to a club.
Jennie looks gorgeous in the trailer and gives us a promising glimpse of her acting debut. Along with her scenes in the teaser, fans also noticed the name she chose as an actress, Jennie Ruby Jane.
If the name seems familiar, it’s because it’s also her Instagram username. Fans love the use of Jennie Ruby Jane for her acting career.

jennie using Jennie Ruby Jane as her actress name instead of Jennie Kim is so smart… like jennie kim is the idol and jennie ruby jane for her other career and she's basically separating that persona from kpop. also people can just search that and find her instagram super easily.

if jennie registered with screen actors guild she probably had to take jennie ruby jane as her stage name because there must be already someone else registered as jennie kim in SAG

With her using the name for her acting debut, fans have begun to explore its origin; here’s what we know.
It’s been reported that her friends from school in New Zealand used to call her Jennie Ruby Jane, or Jennie Ruby-Jane Kim. Fans located a Facebook account they believe belongs to one of Jennie’s school friends, which seemed to support the theory her friends called her Jennie Ruby Jane in New Zealand. The friend from the Facebook account posted about Jennie until she moved back to Korea to train at YG Entertainment in 2010.
Jennie was also seen wearing a necklace that said “Ruby Jane” in Arabic on multiple occasions in 2017.
