BLACKPINK’s Jennie Isn’t “Easy To Work With” — According To Herself
Since making her debut as a member of BLACKPINK, Jennie’s career has only grown. In the last few years, the idol has made her acting debut and is currently planning her first full-solo album.
Jennie was recently featured in the January edition of Billboard, where she discussed several topics, including her thoughts on working on her album.
The idol revealed some of the more difficult parts of the album production cycle, including creating a new “creative network” after only working with one producer.
I struggled a lot in the beginning. A few months, I would say, was just me throwing myself out there, walking into rooms filled with new people. I just had to keep knocking on the door, like, ‘Is this it?’ ‘Is this it?’ and then eventually, we got to a point where I found a good group of people that I linked with, sonically and as friends.

Jennie also stated that working on the album was a different process than working with BLACKPINK where she learned how to compromise with others. With her solo work, Jennie says the only person she has to compromise with is herself, which has made the experience both harder and rewarding.
It’s a fight between me, myself, and I — I’m not easy to convince. It’s not easy working with me. […] I needed this. I wanted this. The more I get to know myself, the more I try to love myself. I’ve had a time in my life where I didn’t — I had no clue how to do that. I didn’t know who I was. I didn’t know what I was living for. The time where I was feeling clueless. The fact that I’ve moved on from that phase and being so committed to myself, I’m very proud.

This sort of introspection is apparent in the album, according to Jennie, who stated that it was about “what I’ve experienced, what I resonate to or what I want in my life.”
