When Jennie released “like JENNIE,” it became an instant hit and idols did their own challenges.

Yet, while netizens have loved seeing idols do the challenge, some have seen their favorite stars get hit with major criticism, including TXT‘s Yeonjun, who was defended by fans after scathing criticism for his version.

Following the hate, a big Jennie account on X brought back a clip from a past interview Jennie did for the album release and her comments regarding “like JENNI.”

In the interview, she explained that the song didn’t necessarily mean to be like her.

Jennie explained that her name could easily be replaced in “like JENNIE” to be the person’s name, adding, “I want this to be a confidence boost for people.”

She wanted fans to enjoy themselves, explaining, “That’s the message there. Love yourself and, you know, have fun in life.”

The tweet gained a lot of attention when it was posted.

Netizens shared their reactions, with some explaining how dance challenges used to be fun but now see idols scrutinized, including a clip of Yeonjun sharing his thoughts on challenges. Others pointed out that the criticism idols get for challenges, especially this one, goes against everything Jennie wanted the song to represent.
