On March 30, several clips of the BLACKPINK members performing different songs, presumably for evaluations as trainees under YG Entertainment, were leaked online. The leak was supposedly done by a former YG employee, who threatened to release more sensitive data from all big entertainment agencies.

One of the leaks included Jisoo covering Nicki Minaj‘s “Right By My Side.”

The cover has triggered some very opposing reactions from fans and non-fans. Fans have praised Jisoo’s raw vocals, commending her for her hard work in perfecting the pronunciation of the lyrics and swooning over her unfiltered visuals.

On the other hand, many also criticized Jisoo’s vocals, implying that they were insufficient for her to debut as an idol.

While there might be opposing views about Jisoo’s raw vocals as a trainee, it is undeniable that she has grown exponentially as an artist, as evident in her latest solo album, Amortage.

Meanwhile, the other three BLACKPINK members have come under fire for allegedly singing the “n-word” in their pre-debut performances. Read more about it here:
