Lisa released her solo album Alter Ego on February 28, KST, along with the music video for the title song. The song was met with mixed reactions, with some criticizing the lyrics while others defending Lisa.

Now, another wave of criticism has hit the song for allegedly copying the girl group XG.

In particular, some have found the rap part of Lisa’s song to be too similar to a verse of XG’s “Woke Up.”

In addition, some also pointed out that one of the outfits in Lisa’s music video was similar to one of the stage costumes of XG’s Jurin.

However, many have defended the BLACKPINK member, pointing out the lapse in such comparisons. For example, two artists wearing similar outfits is not an unusual phenomenon as pop culture adapts to relevant fashion trends so often. In addition, as many fans discovered, Jaeyoung Lee, a lyricist credited on Lisa’s “FUTW,” also worked on XG’s “Woke Up” and “Howling,” which could explain some of the similarities in the rap flow between the two songs.

Additionally, the choreographer for “FUTW” and “Woke Up” is the same person. So, the alleged similarities between the two tracks in different aspects could be better explained by the overlapping creatives who have worked behind the scenes for both.
