Netizens React To BLACKPINK's Entire Korean Discography Over Their Seven Years Together

With the news that BLACKPINK members Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa will reportedly be leaving YG Entertainment, fans of the group have been talking about the group’s discography over the past seven years and how fair or unfair they feel they were treated in terms of musical releases.

It’s not a new topic by any means — YG Entertainment has become notorious for how few songs that the girl group has in their discography despite their massive success and popularity. But when looking at their short list of music in terms of their album releases, it becomes just that much clearer how little BLACKPINK was able to release.

On a forum post about the subject, a total of ten “albums” were listed in the girl group’s discography. However, the majority of these “albums” are single albums or digital singles, and even their EPs and full albums had relatively few songs compared to some other artists.

Their first album was Square One, with the title tracks “BOOMBAYAH” and “Whistle”, released on August 8, 2016. A single album, these were also the only two songs on it.

Later that year, on November 1, 2016, the girl group released Square Two, another single album. It had the double title tracks “Playing With Fire” and “Stay”, as well as an acoustic version of “Whistle”.

They first released “As If It’s Your Last” as a digital single on June 22, 2017.

The following year, on June 15, 2018, they released their first mini-album, Square Up. However, the album only included four songs (five if you include “As If It’s Your Last”, which was a physical edition hidden track), with “DDU-DU DDU-DU” serving as the title track.

About a year later, they released their second mini-album, Kill This Love, on April 5, 2019. It had the most songs of their albums so far with five total (including a title track of the same name as the album), though one of those tracks was a remix of “DDU-DU DDU-DU”.

As was their collaboration song with Selena Gomez, “Ice Cream”, which came out on August 29 the same year.

They both led up to the long-awaited release of BLACKPINK’s first “full” album, The Album, which came out on October 20, 2020. However, many fans were left disappointed that the album only included eight songs, among which were the two songs they’d released earlier in the year.

A nearly two-year-long wait occurred after the release of The Album, and the pre-release single “Pink Venom” finally came out on August 19, 2022.

Finally, and most recently, BLACKPINK released their second “full” album, BORN PINK, on September 16, 2022. Once again, though, the album only had eight songs, including “Pink Venom” and the track “Ready To Love”, which was a promotional single released earlier as a collaboration with PUBG Mobile.

If you include the acoustic versions and remixes on these albums, the total comes to barely over 30 songs released in seven years, which is incredibly low compared to other artists at a similar age.
