BLACKPINK Shocks Netizens With The Explicit Lyrics In Their New Track “Tally” From The “Born Pink” Album
On the outside, BLACKPINK seem like the perfect image of K-Pop idols. Since debuting, they’ve always been praised for their talent, visuals, and charming personalities. Growing up in front of the spotlight, netizens have watched the members grow into adults and mature.
As they get older, the BLACKPINK members have proved that they’re not the same young girls that debuted in 2016. They have showcased a more mature and sexier sides suited to their age.
It seems like that growth has been noticed by netizens after the group released their first album in over two years called Born Pink. As expected, the video for their title track, “Shut Down,” stole the hearts of netizens with its badass lyrics and concept.
Yet, even though all the members’ visuals shone in “Shut Down,” one other track caught the attention of fans. It was none other than the song “Tally.”
Although BLACKPINK has never adhered to the “prim and proper” image idols are meant to have, regularly doing darker and more badass concepts, the lyrics of “Tally” stunned fans due to the explicit language in the song.
From the very beginning of the song, the members showcase a new side to them that showcases an “IDGAF” attitude. In the first verse, Rosé shook fans when she sang the words with not only passion but also a few expletives.
I say ‘fuck it’ when I feel it
‘Cause no one’s keepin’ tally
I do what I want with who I like
I ain’t gon’ conceal it
While you talkin’ all that shit
I’ll be gettin’ mine, gettin’ mine.— Rosé
The same verse is also repeated several times by Jennie and Jisoo, showcasing a new side to the group.
In the third verse, Jennie changes it up during her part but still keeps the same no-nonsense attitude when it comes to the lyrics and the message of the song.
Sometimes, I like to go play dirty
Just like all of the fuck boys do.— Jennie
When the song was released, netizens couldn’t get over the explicit lyrics heard in the track. While some joked that it reminded them of hearing a child swear for the first time, others believed it shows the growth of BLACKPINK and their attitude towards “haters.”
