Earlier this month, it was announced that IVE would release a song in collaboration with Pepsi titled “Summer Festa.” On June 26, the official teaser for the track was released ahead of the official drop on June 28.

IVE is under Starship Entertainment, which has had a relationship with Pepsi for several years. Since 2019, several K-Pop songs have been released in collaboration with Pepsi, including “Taste Of Korea,” which featured RainMONSTA XBrave Girls, and ATEEZ.

However, the proposed boycott is due to PepsiCo‘s ownership of SodaStream

SodaStream is best known for producing machines that add carbonation to drinks, allowing individuals to make their own sodas at home. The brand was founded in England but is currently Israeli-based.

PepsiCo acquired the company in 2018, and SodaStream is one of the companies directly listed on the BDS Movement’s official consumer Pro-Palestine boycott list.

Soda Steam is actively complicit in Israel’s policy of displacing the indigenous Bedouin-Palestinian citizens of Israel in the Naqab (Negev). SodaStream have a long history of mistreatment of and discrimination against Palestinian workers.

It is because of this that many fans have shared their plans of boycotting the release and anger towards Starship for the collaboration.
