“As soon as I woke up…I’m dazed…I found out that I was accepted into the KAIST Graduate School of Science Journalism for a Master’s degree in Engineering.”

KAIST is considered one of the most difficult Korean universities to get into. The reported acceptance rate for local students is around 14.9%, and for international students, it is 13.2%. According to THE-QS World Rankins, the university was ranked as the best in the Republic of Korea.

Koo Hye Sun graduated summa cum laude from Sungkyukwan University this February, earning a Bachelor’s degree. Though the actress originally enrolled in the university’s film department in 2011, she wasn’t able to complete her degree for a long time due to her busy schedule.

Meanwhile, she stepped into the entertainment industry after becoming popular on the internet as an ulzzang, the Korean term used to refer to people to exceptional visuals. She was a trainee under SM Entertainment and later joined YG Entertainment, where she was supposed to debut as a singer. But YG Entertainment’s founder, Yang Hyun Suk, encouraged her to consider acting instead, and she made her television debut in the KBS horror show Anagram. Koo’s rise to fame was with the 2006 K-Drama, Hearts of Nineteen, followed by another hit performance in The King And I in 2007. But her most memorable performance was in Boys Over Flowers, where she played the lead role opposite Lee Min Ho.
